Miami Open Predictions Round of 16

by TN

Tennisnerd predicts the round of 16 in Miami Open. Will Federer and Rafa come through easily? What about nextgen Donaldson? The match Kyrgios vs Goffin is a blockbuster. Who will win? Comment below!

I use the Bet365 odds tables to show the schedule. Times are CET and the odds format is European. If you’re outside Europe and want to place a bet on tennis you can check out Bovada.lv where you get a sportsbetting bonus of 50% up to 250 USD.

Quite a few interesting matches, but also hard to spot any potential upsets.

Fognini vs Young
A tough one to predict. Both guys are mentally unstable on a tennis court but can produce greatness when they’re in the zone. I think Fognini has shown a positive mindset and approach in Miami and will predict he takes it in three sets. As you can see the odds that Bet365 gives are quite even.

Delbonis vs Nishikori
Nishikori is playing great tennis at the moment and loves the Miami courts. To me he is an outsider to win the title and thus Delbonis shouldn’t give him much of a headache.

Sock vs Donaldson
Jack Sock is showing great promise of late and has pretty much all the shots in his arsenal (the backhand could be worked on, admittedly – but his weird forehand is a great weapon). Donaldson is only 20 years old, already ranked within the top 100 and has both Mardy Fish and JM Gambill as his coaches. Still, I think Sock will be too much of a challenge this time.

Berdych vs Mannarino
Mannarino is a tricky player who changed his forehand stroke late in his career and has managed some solid results since. Still, Tomas Berdych is a little too happy on the hard courts despite his struggles this season so far.

Mahut vs Nadal
Mahut is doing a late stride in his career and playing really well, but how he’s going to handle Nadal’s top spin on the rather bouncy courts of Miami, I have no idea. Should be a comfortable win for Rafa.

Federer vs Bautista-Agut
Bautista-Agut doesn’t look like a player with many weapons but he is versatile and a good fighter. But Federer is in some kind of vintage rock n’ roll form so to me, there can only be one winner.

Wawrinka vs Zverev
Zverev won an extremely hard-fought battle against John Isner (three tie-break) and looks like the nextgen player that is ready for the biggest things at the moment. However, Wawrinka is also in great form and his hitting big. I think Wawrinka will be tested, but not enough.

Kyrgios vs Goffin
Kyrgios is becoming a better and better fighter and that bodes well for him but not great for the rest of the tour. He won a tight battle against giant Karlovic in the previous round and looks confident and determined. However, Goffin is a very tricky and smart player. I would go with Kyrgios in the end, but this should be a close match.
