Federer played a great season, did almost everything well, but in the end he came up short to the player of the year and the indisputable world number one, Novak Djokovic. For a Federer fan the slam season was both good and bad, two finals is a pretty amazing result, but when you’re Roger Federer, all you really want is the “W” and the trophy. Kudos to Djokovic though for playing like a “wall”, moving like a cat and getting everything back. The guy deserves the credit. He’s not as exciting to watch as Federer and will have a hard …

The above clip reminded me about an old article I wrote about the Fedal rivalry or as I called it then: The Battle of Legends – Federer vs Nadal. I wrote it before Djokovic came thundering in and changed the conversation. Despite the Federer vs Nadal rivalry not being as competitive in head-to-head stats (Nadal always seemed to be quite a convincing favourite), it was magical in the contrast of personalities and playing styles. Being a Federer fan always made it more exciting to watch than Nadal vs Djokovic, because Roger was somehow always the underdog despite often being ahead …
Today Roger Federer took one step closer to the number one position in the world through beating Novak Djokovic in a fireworks display that ended 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3. Since I’m such a Federer fan and a “racquetaholic”, I’ve managed to set up a good deal exclusive for Tennisnerd readers. The first offer is $30 off on one of my favorite racquet series, Dunlop Biomimetic. I was always a fond of 200 and 300 (Verdasco), but 500 (Almagro) is great for players with loads of top spin and an aggressive game. The second offer is on the more control-focused Wilson …
Sometimes we doubt Federer’s resolve and hunger to keep on winning tennis matches. He has been prone to leave the court mentally in critical stages the last few years and the way he deflated against Djokovic in the French Open semifinal doesn’t exactly fill a Federer fan with confidence. Against Julien Benneteau in the third round of Wimbledon yesterday there were plenty of moments to doubt Federer’s form and will to win. He looked nervous and slightly sloppy while the Frenchman, possibly inspired by Lukas Rosol’s amazing upset against Nadal was on fire, smacking down heavy groundstrokes, moving in to …
Tomorrow it starts, the flagship of tennis events, the mecca of our beloved sport – Wimbledon. Since lots of sites make lots of predictions, I want to be brief and focus on the most interesting areas of this year’s Wimbledon. Here are my 5 favorite topics to watch for Wimbledon 2012. 1. Federer. As most readers of this blog knows, I’m a Federer fan and I’m of course both curious and hopeful about his chances of holding his seventh Wimbledon trophy and his 17th Grand Slam trophy. Many hold him as favorite because of the rather good season he’s had …
6-4 7-5 6-3. For a Federer fan it was pure pain. The maestro who we all were waiting for, the one who had managed to put a dent in Djokovic’s amazing 2011 season last year and who holds pretty much every record in the world of tennis, didn’t show up. Sure, he was there, he pulled his hair to the side, he spun his racket when receiving, he took the usual casual strides around the court, but the real Roger Federer wasn’t there. It happens sometimes with Federer. He doesn’t have rhythm, he doesn’t have heart, he doesn’t even look …
A lot of people are retiring during matches at the moment and it seems like we’re in some kind of injury period on the ATP Tour. Although clay can be more body-friendly to move on, the long rallies and matches (less reliance on the serve for example) really takes a toll for a lot of the players. But let’s not dwell on injuries and instead look at what happened in Rome yesterday. Little Italian man Fabio Fognini tired pretty much EVERYTHING to beat Wavrinka, but it didn’t work out for him. At least he got a set. Italian players seems …
Federer and Nadal on adjacent practice courts. Please put them on a match court as well! At the time of writing Afro Murray has just lost the first set to Bellucci and we’re seeing how Murray’s passive playing style can be a problem against guys who can control the court like Bellucci can when he is on his game. Lot of tennis left though of course. Side note: I think Murray is trying to grow his hair enough to have dreadlocks and become Rastamurray. On another court the two giant mega hitters, Tsonga and Soderling is battling it out and …
