I’ve been play-testing many racquets lately and had lots of fun with it. However, it gets to a point where your game starts to suffer from all the different setups you’re playing with. And if you’re main point is improving your tennis (it is for me), it’s not a good strategy. The racquet is your tool, but it’s supposed to feel like an extension of your arm, and if you have a foreign object there half of the time, you’re never going to get to the point where you stop worrying about your racquet and focus on your technique. Just …
Grigor Dimitrov
Dimitrov won the ATP 500 in Acapulco, Mexico, beating Andy Murray on the way to the final. That Dimitrov is a shot-maker of God-like standards, we all knew, but that he could keep it together for a tournament is a great sign for fans of his highly enjoyable playing style. The point above could very well be the point of the year and we’re only in February. Now that Dimitrov has two titles to his name, it’s getting clearer and clearer that he’s a real contender for top 10 very soon. He will be moving up to #15 in the …
Being spoiled with the era of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray – I’m worried that the coming generation won’t be up to the same standard. I know it’s almost impossible to reach the drama of the last 8-9 years, but I want to keep watching tennis and I want to enjoy it to the max. Federer drew me back to the game after a stint of disenchantment and I would hate to lose that passion again. So I keep hoping we get another back of truly great players to keep the sport alive and kicking for many years to come. …
It’s been a strange couple of days in the tennis world. Yesterday I saw one of my tour favorites, Grigor Dimitrov, beat both his cramping legs and his opponent, world number 1, Novak Djokovic in a three setter: 7-6 6-7 6-3 in the second round of Madrid Masters. Djokovic was hitting the ball well but twisted his ankle after a rally in the end of the second set and that could possibly have hampered him. You can’t take away anything from Dimitrov though, he was spot on in all respects and deserved the win. It would be very strange if …
There is no denying Tommy Robredo‘s return to the upper echelons of men’s tennis after first beating young star Grigor Dimitrov and today tournament number three seed and top ten player Tomas Berdych. It must feel strange to be a solid top ten player and then fall out for so long. Here is the chart of  Robredo’s rough five years. And you can find a more detailed chart of Tommy Robredo’s rankings history here It will be interesting to see if he can follow up his recent success and keep climbing the ATP rankings. Tommy is playing with a Dunlop …
Tennis can be such a beautiful sport and show such grace and humility and sportsmanship even after a long and consuming match. Just watch this clip for some fantastic rallies and a nice end that shows that after all, it’s just a sport. I hope both Tsonga and Dimitrov goes on to do well in this year’s Wimbledon.
Tomorrow it starts, the flagship of tennis events, the mecca of our beloved sport – Wimbledon. Since lots of sites make lots of predictions, I want to be brief and focus on the most interesting areas of this year’s Wimbledon. Here are my 5 favorite topics to watch for Wimbledon 2012. 1. Federer. As most readers of this blog knows, I’m a Federer fan and I’m of course both curious and hopeful about his chances of holding his seventh Wimbledon trophy and his 17th Grand Slam trophy. Many hold him as favorite because of the rather good season he’s had …
