I’m not going into a detailed analysis of each section of the draw and I’m not going to predict every match, but I’m going to touch on what I see could be key points in the Wimbledon Draw this year. The Wimbledon draw threw us an interesting surprise in giving us a re-run of Mahut vs Isner. I think the hype about this match is about much, especially since I don’t see how it can resemble the affair of last year. This time we might have three straights to Isner for example. But if both players serve as well and …
Raonic
Yes, Nadal showed his dedication to the sport and to his career by coming to Queens despite and exhausting French Open. It’s more important for Nadal to get a lot of practice and matches under his belt, than it is for Federer. Federer tries to keep the body fit, chooses his tournaments carefully and that’s probably one of the reasons he hasn’t missed from a Grand Slam in many, many years (ever?). This approach show how different the two legends are and that of course makes their rivalry and their quest for the GOAT title even more interesting. Today he …
Today I’m cheering Kei Nishikori in his ATP Rome Masters first round match against Gael Monfils. A few thoughts the early Rome action. Let’s do it kinda bullet form to make it easier to read (and write) – I’ll call it “My Take On Tennis: (date)” Verdasco beat Raonic 6-4 6-4 yesterday after “trash-talking” him last time they played. He basically said that Raonic is all serve and if he could play him on clay it would be a different story. I think that was a really stupid thing to say, although it does make for decent publicity, because Raonic …
ATP Masters in Madrid is under way and we have already seen Roddick and Fish crash out of the tournament. Roddick looked completely lost on the red stuff against Italian qualifier Cipolla and although he showed some fighting spirit he lost in three sets and it seems like he just cannot wait to get this part of the season over with. Fish lost to Big John Isner in a three-set serve-fest. Isner won two tie-breaks and could hopefully turn the tide with a good showing in Madrid. Sam Querrey is having a completely miserable season and crashed out to Michael …
Hmmmm…what’s on the menu for the tennis fan today? We’ll have action from Munich, Serbia and Estoril so let’s have a quick look… Djokovic plays his good friend and “imitator” Janko Tipsarevic in Serbia Open. Tipsarevic is playing good tennis at the moment, but I doubt him taking a set from the Djoker. It looks like Italian mini-man Filippo Volandri is back in good form. He takes on Feliciano Lopez in the other Serbia Open semi-final and I think he is in for a good chance. Lopez has been serving well though so he is the favorite. In Estoril Del …
