ATP Masters in Madrid is under way and we have already seen Roddick and Fish crash out of the tournament. Roddick looked completely lost on the red stuff against Italian qualifier Cipolla and although he showed some fighting spirit he lost in three sets and it seems like he just cannot wait to get this part of the season over with. Fish lost to Big John Isner in a three-set serve-fest. Isner won two tie-breaks and could hopefully turn the tide with a good showing in Madrid. Yesterday was a strange day at the French Open. It wasn’t easy to predict how the action was going to unfold, but at least there should be a few “given” matches. But it didn’t pan out that way. Firstly, Roddick played a horrible match, losing against Gabashvili in three straight sets. He just couldn’t get enough lead on the ball. They were all sitting up for Gabashvili, who played aggressively and hit 60 winners. I recently ordered three tennis-related items. The DVDs for the Wimbledon finals 2008 and  2009 and L Jon Wertheim critically acclaimed book about the 2008 final called Strokes of Genius, Federer v Nadal, Rivals in Greatness. American tennis player John Isner is 2,06 meters above the ocean and weighs 110 kg. Obviously he has a good serve. But the rest? Pretty damn good too. John Isner is one of those big players that has a big game, but also the feel and movement to back it up. When Federer won his 15th slam in the 2009 Wimbledon final I thought I would be more thrilled. But it was bittersweet. Andy Roddick is not the most versatile player, he is not always an entertaining player to watch, but man this guy got heart! And some hearts he won as well after losing an epic five-setter against the greatest player ever by 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 16-14. Now I want to enjoy the final again so I bought it on DVD.
