One great way to improve as a tennis player is to record yourself. I do it all the time. Now I have tried the Functional Tennis camera mount. The Functional Tennis camera mount is mainly made for mobile phones but can also be used for GoPros or similar cameras. It is not made for larger, more traditional digital cameras, but I have recently moved from recording with my Lumix GX85 (which is great, but limited when it comes to recording sound) to my iPhone 11. The phone does a great job capturing the colors and the sounds and I am …

VT Advantec is a new company on the tennis scene. Their mission is to reduce vibrations from tennis racquet through their strips and grips. Yesterday I got a box with a couple of VT Advantec strips and grips and it will be interesting to review their products. I have already added both the grip (which feels like a softer leather grip) and the rubber-like strips to one of my Soft Drives to see what it does to the feel. The VT Advantec marketing talks about the following: “Our science will give you an edge. We’ve combined innovative dampening materials with …
Here is a tool that can help you make sure to grip your racquet correctly for the various strokes. It is called the Tennis Grip Guide. The Tennis Grip Guide is a rubber band with numbers illustrating the various bevels of the tennis racquet handle. It will help you identify the differences between Continental, Eastern, Semi-Western and Western grips. This can be useful for players of all levels, especially if you are starting out as a kid, junior or a beginner. The Tennis Grip guide (link to Amazon) resembles one of those rubber bands that some racquets come with, to …
I am not sure you have heard about the tennis pointer, but it is a training tool developed by Jiri Bartos who used it to coach top boys player Jonáš Forejtek. The video of Forejtek hitting with the tennis pointer went viral so there was apparently interest around this tool which pretty much looks like a large wooden spoon with a tennis grip. Bartos decided to make a business out of it and you can now buy the Tennis Pointer from MSV and Functional Tennis. They are all handmade in the Czech Republic. So I have been playing around with …
Do you have trouble keeping score during a match? Check out Scoring Right – a scoring tool that attaches to your racquet. Here is my Scoring Right review. Scoring Right is a semi-rigid plastic unit that attaches to the throat of your racquet. It helps to keep score and tells you which side of the court to serve from. It is an interesting tool to teach kids the scoring of tennis but also works well for forgetful recreational players. I have been playing with Scoring Right on two racquets for a while and although some commenters on my Instagram thought …
I get a lot of questions on YouTube about my recording setup. It is nothing fancy but does the job. Here are the tools I use and some tips for recording yourself. One question keeps popping up over and over again on Tennisnerd and it is about my recording setup. So I thought it was time to write a post about it. I have written about recording yourself to improve your tennis before, but back then I was using a phone. Not that there is anything wrong with using a phone. Some new phones (such as the Samsung S10 or …
