Wilson Blade 100 V8

by TN

The Wilson Blade 100 V8 is now available to buy at Wilson.com. Possibly the most widely appealing frame in the Blade V8 series.

I have reviewed a bunch of Blade V8 racquets here and I surprisingly enjoyed the Blade V8 104 as well. Still, most players are looking for something in between the excellent control of the Blade 98 and the slightly excessive power of the Blade 104. This is where the Wilson Blade V8 100 comes in handy. I’m yet to test this frame, but I hope to get my hands on one for a racquet review.

You can currently only buy the Blade V8 100 on Wilson.com but it should be available also on Tennis Warehouse and Tennis Warehouse Europe in a near future.

Tech check

This is the description from Wilson.com – it’s a sales talk but at least describes what the intended idea is with the technologies included in the new Wilson Blades V8.

Parallel Drilling
Grommet construction provides a consistent, more forgiving string bed response while dramatically increasing the sweet spot.

Top Grip Taper
Tapered grip lends a better feel for top-handed grip placement on the two-handed backhand.

FORTYFIVE°
Patent-protected frame layup produces a more connected-to-the-ball feel while better complementing the more modern, vertical swing path. Material increases both flexibility and stability without compromise through the swing.

DirectConnect
Carbon fiber handle extends to directly connect with end cap for improved feel and enhanced torsional stability.

Spec check

The specs look very appealing for players looking for a tweener style frame with a bit more comfort and control. Still, I miss two key specifications for the racquet: swing weight and stiffness. But I assume that the stiffness won’t be much higher than with the other Blades I have tested, which are all comfortable and easy on the arm. My guess for the swing weight would be in the 315-320 range.

Summary

On paper, this looks like an excellent racquet choice. I didn’t test the previous Blade 100 but I heard plenty of good things about it so I assume that this is an improvement like with the other Blades.

If you have tested this frame, let me know! Review to come.

Hi. tested the blade V8 range today. I would say that they all have the blade feel that is expected however the blade 100 sacrifices a dispropotionate amount of control for the added depth acheived. Good racket for sure. Would still lean toward 98. Thanks!
