Tennis Racquets

What racquet do I use today?

The title: “What racquet do I use today?” is for two reasons: I have lots of racquets but I wanted to tell you what racquet I use the most.

Choosing a tennis racquet is not easy. I know many of you who follow my struggle with this, as do I. It’s one of the reasons, I started Tennisnerd a while back, to be able to document my journey and learnings around this often underestimated topic. I haven’t bought, traded, and sold racquets over the years to collect, I’ve done it because I like how much a racquet can affect your tennis, but also because of a desire to find the racquet that will work best for me. I keep coming back to several racquets over and over, but there is one racquet mainly that I use today.

I have written and talked about my customized Babolat Soft Drives before in my vlogs and posts on Tennisnerd, so we don’t go into depth about why I keep coming back to this racquet. Some players who try my setup understand straight away why I like it and some don’t. Racquets are a personal thing and you need to play with what works for you. Imitating other players won’t work, you need to find your own path. This is true for most things in life.

What racquet do I use today? The vlog.

In this video, I also talk about some of the upcoming racquet reviews coming on this website and on YouTube. Such as the Wilson Six One 100 that I have just strung up and will take to the court for the first time today. I know many of you are curious about that racquet and I hope to be able to break down what makes that racquet great or not in an upcoming review.

I also have a few ProKennex racquets to play-test. The ProKennex Ki Q+5 Pro, which is a racquet that intrigued me after my recent ProKennex racquets review. My elbow is still not healed 100% so any chance of eliminating shock and improving comfort is a good idea. I will also be testing the ProKennex Ki Q+5X Pro, which is the extended version of the same racquet.

  • What is the difference between the HEAD Graphene 360+ Extreme MP and the Babolat Pure Aero (how they play)? Which one do you prefer?

    • Both very spin-friendly and offer a similar stiff/crisp feel. I prefer the Extreme, but for a spin-oriented baseline game, they're both good.

  • I have a Yonex Vcore 100 and a Ezone 100. For me, the Vcore 100
plays nicer than the Pure Aero or Extreme MP; reason being the more controlled launch angle of the Vcore 100 due to a not extremely open string pattern.

I still prefer the Ezone 100 but the Vcore 100 is a great racquet.

It is interesting how some racquets really have a loopy launch angle. Doesn’t suite me but I am sure many others prefer a more loopy shot.

  • Hallo Tennisnerd, thanks for your nice reviews. I am a fan of your postings.
I have bought a Head Pro Tour 2.0 and a Head graphene 360+ prestige mp after seeing your videos. My question is what is your favourite string setup for both raquets after a longer time of using? Is it still Velocity MLT (1,25 25Kg)/Alu Power (1,15 24Kg) or Head Hawk Touch (1.20 23Kg) for PT2.0 and Velocity MLT (1.30) for Prestige mp? Sorry for my english. I am from germany and i have to improve it.
Keep on going with your great content.
