Wimbledon 2022 Day 6 Predictions

It’s time for Wimbledon 2022 day 6 predictions by Alex Mann. We’re getting close to the second week and the action is heating up.

Wimbledon 2022 Day 6 Predictions

Day 5 was fast and furious, with all singles matches on Centre and Court 1 finishing in straight sets. There were dominant performances from Jabeur, Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Norrie, as well as impressive wins for Heather Watson, Elise Mertens, Tatjana Maria and Jannik Sinner.

Let’s look forward to an action-packed Saturday with the likes of Swiatek, Nadal, Halep and Kyrgios taking to the court.

Centre Court

Coco Gauff (11) vs Amanda Anisimova
The young Americans face off against each other in a mouth-watering third-round match. Coco Guaff played an exceptional match to dispatch Buzarnescu, dropping just five games. Anisimova came from a set down to beat Davis. Gauff is the more natural on grass and will be looking to use her variety to move Anisimova around the court. Anisimova possesses more power, and Gauff will have to be wary of her backhand, which is regarded as one of, if not the best in the women’s game today.

Prediction – Guaff in 3 sets

Paula Badosa (3) vs Petra Kvitova (25)
Badosa has shown us some good grass-court tennis this week, dropping only eight games during her first two matches. Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova hasn’t played her best tennis at the All-England Club this year after coming off a stellar week at Eastbourne. Although Badosa is not an experienced grass-court player, Kvitova must step up her game. I believe she can do so.

Prediction – Kvitova in 2 sets

Rafael Nadal (2) vs Lorenzo Sonego (27)
Nadal has been tested in his first two matches, winning in four sets. He will need to improve if he is to beat Lorenzo Sonego, who reached the fourth round of Wimbledon last year and has a grass-court title. If Nadal can get his serve firing and unleash his forehand, he will be too much for Sonego.

Prediction – Nadal in 3 sets

Court 1

Alex de Minaur (19) vs Liam Broady
The Brit, Liam Broady came through a thriller to beat 12 seed Diego Schwartzman. Alex de Minaur had an impressive win over the in-form Jack Draper in four sets and will be hoping to send another Brit packing. Broady has done well to reach the third round, but his gas tank may be low after winning his first two rounds in five-setters. Alex is one of the quickest players on tour, so I struggle to see how Broady can overcome the Australian.

Prediction – de Minaur in 3 sets

Iga Swiatek (1) vs Alize Cornet
Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove tested Swiatek in the last round and came through in three sets. She will need to improve her performance if she wants to continue her undefeated streak and go deep in the tournament. The experienced Cornet tied the record for competing in the most consecutive majors (at 62) this fortnight. She has experience upsetting the very best on the biggest of stages, most notably defeating Serena Williams in the third round of Wimbledon in 2014. This will be a tough challenge for Swiatek and Cornet will be up for it. I’m going with an upset victory for Cornet.

Prediction – Cornet in 3 sets

Stefanos Tsitsipas (4) vs Nick Kyrgios
Can Tsitsipas handle the Kyrgios show? Stefanos has shown some excellent tennis on the grass this year and won his first grass-court title in Mallorca last week. However, he is 0-3 against Kyrgios, including a loss to the Australian on the grass this year. Kyrgios reminded us of his talent in the last round, demolishing Krajinovic and dropping only six games. He’s pulled out of the doubles to concentrate on singles, so could this be a sign?

Prediction – Kyrgios in 4 sets

Matches to watch

Barbora Krej?íková (13) vs Ajla Tomljanovi?
Krejcikova faces a tough battle against the Wimbledon quarter-finalist from last year, Tomljanovic. Krejcikova seems to be improving with every match since coming back from injury, and will need to once again.

Prediction – Krejcikova in 3 sets

Harmony Tan vs Katie Boulter
Both players will be looking to make the fourth round of a major for the first time. Tan played an excellent match to defeat Serena Williams and Boulter fought her way through three tight sets to knock out Pliskova. Boulter will have to be aware of Tan’s drop shots and slices, but the crowd should help her get over the finish line and join fellow Brit Heather Watson in the fourth round.

Prediction – Boulter in 3 sets

Elena Rybakina (17) vs Qinwen Zheng
The promising youngster Zheng has played some great grass-court tennis this week, defeating Sloane Stephens in her opening match. Rybakina’s experience will help her today.

Prediction – Rybakina in 3 sets

Botic van de Zandschulp (21) vs Richard Gasquet
Gasquet has played well to reach the third round, defeating Sousa and McDonald in four and five sets, respectively. However, this may be a step too far for the French veteran. Big serving, Botic van de Zandschulp has been very consistent this year and will continue this form.

Prediction – van de Zandschulp in 4 sets
