Wimbledon Predictions 2022 – Day 9

by Alex Mann

Wimbledon is heating up with some quarter-final action. Here is Alex Mann with more Wimbledon 2022 Predictions for day 9.

Wimbledon 2022 Predictions – Day 9

There was some spellbinding tennis on offer on day 8 of The Championships.

Simona Halep displayed the most impressive tournament performance so far, defeating Paula Badosa 6-1 6-2 emphatically. Halep faces another test against Anisimova, who defeated the giant killer Harmony Tan in the next round. Can anyone stop the Romanian?

Nick Kyrgios dug in to win a tight five-set match against the up-and-coming American, Brandon Nakashima. Kyrgios has made his first Wimbledon quarter-final since his debut in 2014. It looked like it was going to be an all-Australian affair until Cristian Garin saved matched points and came back from two sets down to beat Alex de Minaur in 5 grueling sets. Is this Kyrgios’ best chance to make the semi-final?

There were brutal rallies on court two as Tomljanovic returned from a set down to knock out Cornet. She’s now made back-to-back Wimbledon quarter-finals, so she will be looking to go one better this year.

Finally, there were straight-sets wins for Nadal, Rybakina and Fritz, with all players in fine form during their fourth-round matches.

It’s time to preview the action on day 9 as the last eight men and women looking to reach the semi-final of Wimbledon. You can bet on Wimbledon at BetUS and get a 125% deposit bonus here.

Centre Court

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Jannik Sinner (10)

Sinner played an outstanding match to defeat Alcaraz in four sets. He hadn’t won a tour-level match on grass before this week, so his progression is impressive. This will be his most challenging match by far, as Djokovic has looked impeccable. Both players have world-class backhands and will look to dominate rallies from the back of the court. Sinner won many free points on serve against Alcaraz, but he will know Djokovic will make more returns today. If Sinner’s consistent and plays freely, he has a chance, but I’ll give Djokovic the edge. Novak can find and target an opponent’s weakness and is slightly better than Sinner in almost all categories.

Prediction – Djokovic in 4 sets

Ons Jabeur (3) vs Marie Bouzková

Jabeur was one of the favorites coming into this tournament, and she has lived up to the expectation. Jabeur will look to better last year’s performance at Wimbledon, where she reached the quarter-finals. Jabeur fought hard to beat Mertens in two tough sets, which should give her confidence that she can win when she is not playing her best. Bouzkova’s counter-punching tennis has seen her knock out two seeds, Collins and Riske-Amritraj, and experienced grass courter Garica. Bouzkova is very consistent and won’t give Jabeur many free points, so I expect the Tunisian to utilize her devastating drop shots and slick slices to bring Bouzkova forward.

Prediction – Jabeur in 2 sets

Court 1

Tatjana Maria vs Jule Niemeier

An all-German battle between the experienced, 34 year-old Tatjana Maria and the youngster, Jule Niemeier. In her first year back on tour since her maternity break, Maria held her nerve to save two match points against Ostapenko to make her first-ever slam quarter-final. Maria’s first major appearance was way back in 2007 while Niemeier is making her second one, so this will be a fascinating matchup. Maria loves slicing on both wings, so she will utilize this to break the rhythm of Niemeier’s powerful play. It’s a hard match to predict as both players will want to carry on their impressive runs, but I think Maria will scrape through and set up a semi-final match with Jabeur.

Prediction – Maria in 3 sets

Cameron Norrie (9) vs David Goffin

After breaking his third-round duck and reaching the second week of a Slam for the first time, Cameron Norrie will be looking to go a few steps further and reach the semi-final of his home major. Norrie played exceptional tennis in the fourth round to beat Tommy Paul in straight sets. Goffin has equally played some of his best tennis this year during Wimbledon. He had an impressive win against Frances Tiafoe, defeating him in five sets. The Belgian has struggled with injury and match wins in the past few years, so it’s good to see him back to his best. Norrie will target Goffin’s backhand relentlessly with his lefty forehand, while the Belgian will use his movement, counter-punching abilities and experience to pressurize the Brit. Goffin has had some long battles this
week, and Norrie will make this match physical, so this will be a step too far for David. With the British crowd behind him, Norrie will make his first major semi-final.

Prediction – Norrie in 4 sets
