Ash Barty is the number one women player in the world at the moment. But what is Ash Barty’s racquet?

Ash Barty has a beautiful game, hits the ball very cleanly and uses a mix of an efficient slice on the backhand side, with a powerful forehand and an all-court game that is confident also at the net. Thanks to the protected rankings, she is number one on the WTA Tour singles ranking list. But what racquet does she use?

I have been getting more and more requests to also cover players on the WTA Tour. The information is sometimes harder to come by, but I will do my best in also covering the women’s side of the game a bit more. Ash Barty’s Racquet

As you can see on the Tennis Warehouse player page, Ash Barty endorses the HEAD Gravity MP. But what she is actually using is a HEAD Gravity Pro pro stock mold with a 16×19 string pattern for more spin. It’s somewhat similar to the HEAD Speed MP she used in the past.

Barty strings her racquet with a hybrid of HEAD Hawk Touch in the mains and natural gut in the crosses. I don’t know tension, weight/balance/swing weight, so if someone has an idea of this, please comment.

Pro players can get racquets made to their requirements and although the retail version of the Gravity Pro is an excellent racquet in its own right, Barty is used to using a 16×19 pattern and wants to get a bit more lift and spin on her shots. The thin 20 mm beam and relatively low stiffness will still give her excellent control.

Barty actually uses a type of racquet that is rare on the WTA Tour these days. Most players use pretty powerful frames like Pure Drives, Wilson Steam or HEAD Instinct, but she can generate enough power to manage with a more control-oriented racquet.
