Caroline Wozniacki might be well on her way to winning her first grand slam title during the Australian Open 2018. What racquet does she use? Wozniacki has been using a Babolat Pure Aero Plus (it might be the older model, Babolat Aero Pro Drive, not sure) since she came back to Babolat after some time with Yonex. She strings it up with Babolat RPM Blast and Babolat natural gut strings and wears Adidas Stella McCartney tennis apparel. Her game is heavily built up on patiently waiting for her opponent’s mistakes. She rarely misses a ball, but sometimes gets punished due to being …
Babolat RPM Blast
I’ve found my go-to racquet. It’s the Wilson Blade 98 (2015) that I’ve leaded up to 345 grams (strung) and put a leather grip on it to make it more head light. I truly love the control-oriented yet modern feel which allows me to take big cuts at the ball. Right now I’m experimenting with strings and would love to get some opinions. What I’m looking for is a softer string with good spin and decent durability. Power is not a problem. What I’ve tested so far: Luxilon Big Banger (22 kg) – too stiff for my liking. Yonex Poly …
Found this great post on strings used by top players at tennisthis and will list it below. Luxilon Big Banger is a bestseller but we knew that already and that players like to play with hybrid stringing is not news to most people, but still an interesting list. I wonder what you would have to do to convince a player to change their go-to-string. (I play with Babolat RPM Blast, Tecnifibre X-One Bi-phase and One Strings Carbon NRG myself by the way.) Abigail Spears – Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power Adelchi Virgili – PolyFibre Black Venom Adrian Ungur – Luxilon Big …
The last year I’ve been playing almost exclusively with Head Prestige IG MPÂ and it’s probably the racket which I’ve had most consistent results with. Especially since I switched the grips to TK82S (Wilson shape) and added lead to the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, it’s been playing like a dream. A lot thanks to my Babolat RPM blast strings too. But the search for the PERFECT racquet never ceases and I couldn’t help being intrigued by these two reviews of the Volkl Powerbridge Mid 10: The Volkl Powerbridge Mid 10 review on Tennis.com The Volkl Powerbridge Mid 10 review on …
It’s hard not to be mesmerised by this clip of a Nadal practice session. Look at Nadal’s shots and how the ball loops into the air and then the rotations start and it lands in. For a guy who hits a pretty flat shot, this get me very jealous. I find practice videos the best to study top player techniques and this video really gets you close to the action of Rafael Nadal striking the ball. It can’t be easy dealing with that amount of TOP SPIN! If you think it’s gear and not only technique, or you simply just want …
It’s not a simple quest. For me it’s almost eternal. I’m never completely happy with my frame – it almost feels like my tennis soul never will find peace. As I’m writing in “My Tennis Racquets” I’m currently playing with the Head IG Prestige MP and the Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 90 BLX but I can’t really make up my mind. Maybe I need something in between like a Volkl Powerbridge or a Wilson Six.One 95? These thoughts keep going back and forth in my head. But I can’t keep changing my racquets forever. I need to make up my mind and stick …
Yes, thats my latest quest – finding the best tennis strings. Or maybe I shouldn’t call it “the best”, but just the tennis strings that fit my game the best. I have decided to start testing four different strings: Babolat RPM Blast Nadal’s string of choice and a super-spin-friendly string. Has received decent reviews. Curious about what it can do on my Head IG Prestige MP and my Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 90 BLX (the latter being the racquet I play with the most). Description of the Babolat RPM Blast: The string of choice for Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick and …
I was playing a beautiful combo of  Wilson NXT Tour and Luxilon Big Banger but the gut-like NXT broke quite often and although the feel was spectacular I was worried not only the strings would end up broke. I decided to try out the more durable Babolat RPM Blast which promised a lot of spin and feel. From the first hit it felt wonderful. I got the spin and feel I wanted and it took me many, many sets of tennis for it to break. The RPM Blast has become my permanent choice of string and it will take a …
I have been play-testing the Head Youtek IG Speed Pro, the one that Djokovic endorses (although he is using something quite different, read this post for Djokovic’s actual racquet) and although I was skeptical with the weight at first since I normally play with a lighter player’s frame, I really love hitting with it now. There are a couple of things I really like about this racket: The spin generation The design The feel on volleys and drop shots I am really enjoying to hit with this racket, but bear in mind that it’s quite heavy so you need to …
We all love to buy stuff. New rackets, new strings, new shoes, in our hope to become better players. You favorite player  moved to Head, why shouldn’t you? Why not put a little leadteap on it, buy lighter shoes, a new shirt might do the trick? Or maybe that extra kilo in the frame stringing will make you hit with more control and get rid of some mistakes? You try a new racket. You are inspired. You concentrate, you are powered by the NEW and you are hitting fantastically. You play one of the best sessions of tennis ever and …
