Watching live pro tennis has never been easier, thanks to a variety of streaming services that allow fans to skip the traditional cable. However, the distribution of broadcast rights means that a fan often needs a combination of services to catch every tournament, from the Grand Slams to the weekly ATP and WTA tours.
From certain countries, your actual location might cause issues or restrictions, however there are solutions to be found in most cases.
Let’s look at some options, note though that broadcast rights are usually geographically restricted.
Watching the Grand Slams
The four major tournaments, the Australian Open, Roland Garros (French Open), Wimbledon, and the US Open, are the most prestigious, and their rights are held by a few key broadcasters, primarily in the United States.
For the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, the ESPN family of networks is the one to look into. This means you will need a Live TV streaming service that includes channels like ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. Popular Live TV options that carry these channels include Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, FuboTV, Sling TV and DirecTV Stream. Additionally, ESPN+, a separate subscription service, typically offers hundreds of outer-court matches, providing a much more detailed view of the tournament than the main channels offer.
Coverage for the French Open is now via Warner channels (TNT, etc.) for US viewers. Therefore, you would need a Live TV streaming package that includes these channels.
Year-Round Tour Coverage: ATP and WTA
For the rest of the professional season, covering the ATP Masters 1000s, 500s and 250s, as well as the WTA 1000s, 500s and 250s, you have dedicated and general streaming options.
Dedicated Tennis Platforms
- Tennis TV: This is the official streaming service of the ATP Tour. It offers live and on-demand streaming of over 2,500 singles and doubles matches from virtually every ATP Tour tournament, excluding the four Grand Slams (and none of the WTA events).
- The Tennis Channel and Tennis Channel Plus: The Tennis Channel broadcasts a wide array of ATP and WTA events throughout the year. It can be accessed through most Live TV streaming bundles, often as part of a higher-tier package or sports add-on. Tennis Channel Plus is a standalone subscription that provides thousands of extra live matches and on-demand content that do not air on the main Tennis Channel broadcast.
Live TV Streaming Platforms
The Live TV streaming services mentioned for the Grand Slams (FuboTV, DirecTV Stream, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV) remain important year-round. They provide access to both ESPN (which shows some tour events) and, in many cases, The Tennis Channel, which is a major broadcaster for the non-Grand Slam ATP and WTA events. FuboTV and DirecTV Stream are often cited as being particularly good for sports coverage as they frequently include The Tennis Channel in their offerings.
Other Streaming Platforms
Some general services have specific rights in various regions. For example, Amazon Prime Video holds key rights to some tournaments of the tennis calendar in certain international territories, so it is always worth checking your local Prime Video sports offerings. ESPN+ also occasionally streams various smaller international tennis tournaments throughout the year.
Your Streaming Game Plan
To get the most complete tennis coverage, fans generally need to commit to two types of services:
- A Live TV Streaming Service: Choose one that offers the necessary networks for the Grand Slams (ESPN, NBC, ABC) and ideally includes The Tennis Channel for year-round tour matches.
- A Dedicated Niche Service: If you follow the men’s tour closely, Tennis TV provides unparalleled, ad-free coverage of the ATP events outside the majors.
Always remember that broadcast rights are geographically restricted. Be sure to check what a specific streaming service or channel offers in your country before signing up a subscription. Taking advantage of free trials is always a good option we can recommend.
