Gael Monfils is a French tennis player, a real veteran of the game, with a career high rank of no 6. But what is Monfils racquet and gear?
Gael Monfils Tennis Racquet
Gael Monfils tennis racquet is the Artengo TR 960 Control Tour.ย Monfils used quite heavy specs for his Ultra Tour, as you can see below. I am sure he is around a similar metrics with his current racquet.
The TR 960 Control Tour is a precision racquet made for advanced players. Itโs a racquet that needs some weight to get a good level of power and stability.

Gaรซl Monfils was born on September 1st, 1986, in Paris and began playing tennis at the age of 2 in La Courneuve, just outside the French capital.
Monfils made a name for himself as the worldโs no 1 junior in 2004, winning three of four Grand Slam boys titles (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon). Turning pro that year, he claimed his first ATP title in 2005 at Sopot, Poland. In his career he claimed 13 ATP singles titles with many of the coming on indoor courts. Some major highlights including the 2016 Washington Open (his first 500-level title, beating Ivo Karlovi?) and the 2022 Adelaide International (beating Karen Khachanov). His latest trophy came in 2025 at the ATP Auckland event, showing that Monfils is still among the best in the game, even at the age of 38.
Grand Slam performances has been slightly mixed: Monfils reached the 2008 French Open semifinals (falling to Roger Federer) and the 2016 US Open semifinals (losing to Novak Djokovic), alongside quarterfinal runs at all four majors. His 2025 season included a fourth-round showing at the Australian Open, his best there since 2016. With 576 career wins, Monfils has beaten every Big Four member, highlighted by a 2014 US Open upset of then world no 7 Federer.

What is he playing now? I saw him playing a blacked out racket with a Wilson stencil at the BMW Open in Munich. Is it still the h19 or is he trying out something new? It looks like the same
Blacked out raqcuet Borna Coric plays. Is there something new coming?
I’m pretty sure he’s still with his H19, it does sound weird that he doesn’t use a proper paint job then so he’s possibly experimenting with a new racquet. I would assume to get more power since H19 is usually very low-powered. Will get back on the subject! Cheers /J
Wilson Ultra Tour
Strung Balance seems off, 300mm would be more than 13 pts HL.
How can his racquet weigh almost 13oz. with no lead tape? Is it the foam that adds so much weight? And if so, how does a regular non-pro go about modifying a frame in this way?
I always wonder what “Gwadinina 971/12” inscription inside Gael’s racquet means.
If he does have a leather grip applied to the handle, it’s almost certain he counterbalances with lead at the tip of the racquet, under the bumper guard
Gwadinina is the contraction of Gwada (Guadeloupe island) and Madinina (Martinique island), two French islands where his parents are born. The number is the post code of these islands
oh thanks, one mystery solved
