Sardinia, the stunning Mediterranean island known for its turquoise waters and rugged landscapes, is not just a great location for beach lovers, itโ€™s also a popular spot for sports enthusiasts, not at least tennis travellers.

The tennis community here is a mix of local players, expats and tourists who are visiting the islandโ€™s best tennis facilities.

Sardinia doesnโ€™t host major ATP or WTA tournaments, the biggest event is the Sardegna Open, part of the Challenger Tour. Check our review from the 2024 Sardegna Open, where Mariano Navone won the singles event. Its tennis scene is still great though thanks to top-notch courts, professional coaching, great tennis hotels and a climate that allows for year-round play.

Resorts and hotels across the island have have not missed this, offering everything from easily booked casual courts to full-on tennis academies on professional standard courts.

Best Tennis Hotels, Sardegna

Hereโ€™s a list of some of the best hotels in Sardinia that has tennis courts. We included a mix of resorts, looking at price options and court offerings. See more hotel tips in the TN travel blog.

Forte Village Resort โ€“ Santa Margherita di Pula

Forte Village, located on Sardiniaโ€™s southern coast near Pula, is the master of tennis hotels on the island. This luxury resort has no less than 13 tennis courts, 12 clay and 1 synthetic, all floodlit for night play and certified by the Italian Tennis Federation (FIT).

The main draw here is the academy, led by Australian coach Rocco Loccisano, a former pro who once trained Wimbledon champ Pat Cash. The academy attracts players of all levels, offering group lessons, private coaching and week-long programs with a focus on technique and tactics. At times, they bring in pro legends like Pat Cash, Emilio Sรกnchez and Magnus Larsson for special sessions.

Weekly tournaments, singles, doubles, junior, and senior, making ir popular among serious or competitive players.

The resort offers 8 hotels, a thalassotherapy spa, 21 restaurants, a private beach and much more. Itโ€™s a bit expensive, yes, but for tennis fans seeking a the best possible experience on the island, itโ€™s hard to beat.

Hotel Cala di Volpe โ€“ Porto Cervo

Found on the glamorous Costa Smeralda, Hotel Cala di Volpe (image on top) is a luxury spot thatโ€™s recently added a lot when it comes to tennis.

It now features 4 tennis courts (and 2 padel courts), as part of the famous Mouratoglou Tennis Center.

The courts are floodlit, surrounded by stunning views of Cala di Volpe Bay, and supported by professional coaching staff offering tailored lessons. While it doesnโ€™t host regular tournaments like Forte Village, the Mouratoglou connection ensures top-tier training if that is the main focus. Rooms are spacious, with private balconies overlooking the bay or gardens, and the resort adds a massive saltwater pool, a private beach (a short boat ride away) and a 24-hour fitness center.

Arbatax Park Resort โ€“ Dune โ€“ Arbata

For a more affordable yet still impressive option, Arbatax Park Resortโ€™s Dune section on Sardiniaโ€™s east coast is a good option. Located within the Bellavista Natural Park, this resort offers four tennis courts and three padel courts, well-maintained and available to guests for free.

Itโ€™s not a tennis academy, but the court is complemented by a range of sports facilities, basketball, five-a-side football, padel and a water park, making it a great pick for active families or casual players. The resort has private beach, outdoor pool and buffet-style restaurant. Itโ€™s less intense than the luxury heavyweights, but perfect for a laid-back tennis getaway for a decent price.

Alghero Resort Country Hotel & Spa โ€“ Alghero

In northwest Sardinia, the Alghero Resort Country Hotel & Spa brings a mix of modern boutique vibe and history (dating back to the 18th century).

It offers two tennis courts, free to use, with rackets and balls available at reception. Thereโ€™s no formal training or tournaments, but the court is a nice bonus for guests who want a casual hit. The resort also has a pool, spa and horse-riding options, all surrounded by Mediterranean gardens. It’s a price-worthy choice for a relaxed stay with tennis on the side. Located just 4 km from Algheroโ€™s charming old town. Overall a good choice among the best tennis hotels in Sardinia.

Cervo Hotel, Costa Smeralda Resort โ€“ Porto Cervo

Another gem in Porto Cervo, Cervo Hotel usually attracts an upscale crowd with panoramic bay views and a central location on the Emerald Coast.

It features five tennis courts, floodlit and well-kept, available for guest use. While it doesnโ€™t offer a full academy, the hotel can arrange private lessons. Itโ€™s a bit more understated than Cala di Volpe but still what you can expect on the fancy Costa Smeralda.

Courts at Cervo Hotel

Sardiniaโ€™s tennis community might not have the global spotlight of, say, Monte Carlo, but what you” find is good quality and fantastic surroundings. The islandโ€™s mild climate means courts are busy year-round, especially at resorts like Forte Village, which draw international players and coaches. Local clubs, like those in Cagliari and Alghero, attracts both local talents/casual players as well as tourists.
