The Munich Open, or the BMW Open, has been bumped up to an ATP 500 event for the first time in 2025. This means that this year’s entry list is a strong one, featuring plenty of top players. Let’s take a look at some of the best bets to make in Munich this week.

To the surprise of nobody, Alexander Zverev is the favorite across tennis bookmakers. However, the German hasn’t had a good time here in the past. He’s not won the event despite coming here several times, but maybe this the year he snaps that streak.
He has by far the best odds out of any player, paying more than half that of second-favorite Francisco Cerundolo. Behind the Argentine, there’s a healthy chasing pack of Ben Shelton, Jakub Mensik, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Ugo Humbert, all of whom pay between 10.00 (+1000) and 13.00 (+1200).

Betting Tips and Predictions for the ATP Munich Open
After seeing what the bookmakers predict, here are our thoughts on what might unfold at the ATP event in Munich. It’s a somewhat tricky event to figure out because plenty of surprises happen every year – just looking at the list of past champions shows how unpredictable it can be.
- Zverev won’t win
Even though Zverev might have the best odds to win the event, we don’t expect the world No 3 to actually do that. He’s had a poor year outside of the Australian Open, where he made the final. Since then, he’s failed to really play anywhere close to his usual level, and there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue here.
We don’t think he will win the event not just because of his form, but also his track record at the ATP Munich Open. Zverev has been coming to Munich for many years now, but every time he comes, he consistently fails to make the final, much less win the event.
This could be due to him looking toward the Madrid Open, which is an event where he has won and has traditionally played well. Perhaps this looking ahead causes him to lose focus and not play his best. Whatever it is, we don’t think he will win the event.
- Jiri Lehecka to make the final
Jiri Lehecka might not have made big news so far this year, but the Czech player has had a really good season. Essentially, when he has played and not struggled with injuries, he has been playing amazing.
Lehecka grew up on clay and plays very well on that surface. He also has a powerful serve and aggressive play, which suits the way Munich tends to play. Read more about Lehecka and his racquet setup.
Overall, we think that his favorable draw will help him get to the final. Now, whether he actually wins it remains to be seen, but on his half, there isn’t anybody who he should fear.
Ben Shelton and Cerundolo are the toughest players, and we are confident that he can handle both of those players on clay with the way he’s been playing this year.
- Shelton not to make the semi-finals
Shelton has big problems on clay. It’s not the surface he likes to play on, and he doesn’t have the consistency from the baseline to cause trouble for most good clay players. For this reason, hedging against him making the last four is a good bet.
Another reason is the draw. He has Botic van de Zandschulp in his quarter, who has made the final here two times. There is a chance that these two meet, and we’re betting on the Dutch player to upset Shelton if that is the case.
Even if he wins that match, we don’t see him beating Miomir Kecmanovic either, or even Jiri Lehecka in a quarterfinal. He might be the second seed, and he might be a really strong player. However, that all falls to the wayside when he’s on clay and has to move around and not rely on his serve as much.
The American simply seems overpriced, and we’re going to bet against that.
