The Australian Open is the opening Grand Slam event in 2025, and it is a tournament that Novak Djokovic has often dominated throughout his career. Now at the age of 37, the Serbian is bidding for an 11th success when he heads to Melbourne at the start of next year.
Here is a look at whether Djokovic can add to his record in the Australian Open and extend his Grand Slam tally, adding more distance between himself and his rivals.
Djokovic Often Fit at the Start of the Season
One of the reasons why Djokovic has done so well at the Australian Open over the last couple of decades is his fitness. He works incredibly hard during the off-season to ensure he is ready for the event in Melbourne. The former world number one is 7/2 in the sports betting to prevail again next year.
Djokovic missed the ATP Finals in Turin at the end of this season to give his body the rest it needs. It won’t be long before he resumes training ahead of 2025.
Djokovic has lost just one match in the last six years at the Australian Open. He was beaten in the semi-finals in 2024. His career record in the Grand Slam event is 94-9, with his 91%-win percentage being the best out of any of the four major events in the sport.
Encouraging Signs In 2024
The 24-time Grand Slam winner ended his wait for a gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2024. He was victorious in the singles event in France, and after that competition, he ranked it as one of the greatest achievements of his career.

His success in Paris ensured Djokovic became the fifth player in history to win the “Golden Slam” – scoring in all four Grand Slam singles events and landing the Olympic singles gold. He is just the third male player in history to achieve that feat, after Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal.
As well as gold in Paris, Djokovic reached two other big finals in 2024. He was runner-up at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year, while more recently, he was beaten in the final of the Shanghai Masters in China.
Serbian Set to Enter Warm-Up Event
Djokovic has confirmed that he will feature in one of the warm-up events ahead of the Australian Open. The Hong Kong Tennis Open, Adelaide International and ASB Classic all take place on the ATP calendar before the Grand Slam tournament.

The man from Serbia won the ATP Adelaide International in 2023, his first triumph in the ATP 250 event. That proved excellent preparation for the Australian Open, as he also lifted the trophy in Melbourne later in the month.
Before he prepares for the opening week of the 2025 season, Djokovic will be in attendance for Nadal’s final event of his career. The Spaniard will bow out after the Davis Cup Finals, and Djokovic wants to be there to bid farewell to his great rival.
The 2025 Australian Open begins on the 12th of January, with the final scheduled for the 26th of January at Melbourne Park.
