It’s the first of the semi-finals of the 2024 Davis Cup event when Germany take on Netherlands on Friday 22 Nov.
The Netherlands took an unexpected win in the quarter, beating Spain 2-1 and ending the legendary career of Rafa Nadal.
A great match from Botic Van de Zandschulp and Wesley Koolhof took out Carlos Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers in the deciding doubles match, which was dramatic and great to watch, eventually ending 7-6(4) 7-6(3).
Germany are so far managing without their star player, world no 2 Alexander Zverev and beat Canada via the singles matches on Wednesday. Daniel Altmaier defeated Gabriel Diallo 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 and later on we saw Jan-Lennard Struff take out Denis Shapovalov in an exciting match, ending 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7-5).
Germany won this tournament three times but it was all the way back in 1993 when they lifted the trophy the last time.
Germany vs Holland Singles
Tallon Griekspoor (Netherlands) vs Jan-Lennard Struff (Germany)
This should be an even match-up, where no 40 ranked Griekspoor takes on 43 ranked Struff, for just the second time in their careers. The previous meeting was around three years ago in US Open, that time the Dutch fought strongest in a tight 2-6, 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win.
Griekspoor lost his singles match against Alcaraz (Spain), but came back strongly in the doubles and took Holland to the semi’s.
Jan-Lennard Struff (image above) has lost 6 of his last 10 matches but has shown glimpses of very good tennis during the year. He claimed a nice victory against Shapovalov (Canada) in the quarterfinal, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, even though we saw plenty of errors from both.
We would bet on Griekspoor to go 2-0 up in their H2H on Friday, and take Netherlands closer to the Davis Cup final, seeing as he is a better player on indoor hard courts.
Botic van de Zandschulp (Netherlands) vs Daniel Altmaier (Germany)
What a turn-around in form we’ve seen from Van de Zandschulp this year. After the shock win over Alcaraz at the US Open he also got a famous victory this week by being the last ever player to beat Rafa Nadal!
Germany’s Daniel Altmeier played good in the quarter-final match vs Gabriel Diallo (Canada) but he still has a poor record this year and especially on indoor hard-court. This is a surface where Van de Zandschulp seem to enjoy much more.
This will be the first meeting between these two players. We place our money on a Dutch win in this singles match as well.

Odds and Predictions for Germany vs Netherlands
The odds are very even at the tennis bookmakers and Netherlands are just very slight favorites at 1.90 | -110 which is an ok odds in our opinion. A win for Germany is currently at odds 1.95 | -105.
It feels like the form and quality of the singles player slightly favours a Dutch win here.
Prediction: Netherlands to win and reach the Davis Cup final.
