It’s the second round of the Canadian Open, or National Bank Open 2024 and we’re gonna look at our predictions for one of the interesting matchups for later today, which is Holger Rune vs Pablo Carreno-Busta.

The Dane, Rune, had sort of a mixed year, mostly disappointments and injury issues, and this has led to him losing his top 10 ranking. He had to withdraw from the Paris Olympics and before that he reached the fourth round of Wimbledon and the French Open.

He started the Montreal Open in a decent way though, beating Roberto Bautista 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 and hopefully Rune can have a stronger second part of the season.

Holger Rune is normally a very attacking player that can play with a high tempo, especially on hard courts!

So, for today’s opponent, Carreno-Busta, now 33 years old and with a slip down to 799 on the ATP ranking list. The Spaniard had a tough year and is slowly getting back to tour level following injuries. Before the win in the first round in Monotreal (Fabian Marozsan, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3) he’s with only one win from four tournaments.

H2H

This stat might surprise some, but Rune has never defeated Carreno-Busta, which has a solid 3-0 lead in their H2H. The last win came here in Montreal back in 2022.

Predictions for Rune vs Carreno-Busta

I’m gonna go with the bookies on this one and predict a first win for Rune against todays opponent. The odds on the Dane to win is only 1.27 so not the most valuable bet. The odds on the Spaniard is at the moment 3.95.

Rune looked solid in the first round and showed enough glimpses of his very high top level that we are used to seeing him at.

Against a player that has been struggling this season, The Dane will take revenge for the last 3 losses against Carreno-Busta and progress to the next round. Some interesting bets:

  • Set Betting, Rune 2-1 – Odds 3.55
  • Total Games Over 21.5 – Odds 1.72
