The 2nd round of the 2024 Madrid Open is here and and we have an interesting matchup between Luciano Darderi and Taylor Fritz. The winner of this battle will face either Sebastian Baez or the unseeded Luis Van Assche in the next round.
Fritz has some really good results lately and has become a strong player on tour. So far this year he has 15 wins out of 22 and of course a title at the Delray Beach Open. The American looked really good at the recent BNW Open and only lost to a fantastic Struff in the final. He will want to build on that performance, that was his first ever clay court final.
The Italian upcomer (another one!) Luciano Darderi has had a really strong season and won his first ATP title in Cordoba among other good performances. Last event was not quite as successful, where he had a first round exit in Bucharest.Â
Darderi reached this round by beating veteran Frenchman Gael Monfils in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in an impressive way.
ThIs is the first meeting between these two players and the Italian will surely be a tough opponent.
Odds and Predictions for Darderi vs Fritz
We are looking forward to this matchup which should be entertaining and there might be a few upsets. We think the playing conditions will suit Fritz slightly better today and overall he’s a more experienced player. He’s also the favorite at all bookmakers going into the match.
The American should have confidence from reaching his first ever clay court final recently and Darderi might not be able to hold back on Fritz power here.
