Heading into the second day of the French Open and we have some decent clashes already. Obviously a lot of us are awaiting the Nadal vs Zverev match which should be fascinating to follow. As the last match of the day on the men’s singles, we have another interesting matchup where Gael Monfils take on Thiago Seyboth Wild.
- Current odds:
- Monfils 2.32 | +137.5
- Seyboth Wild 1.61 | -162.5
When? Match starts around 8.15pm CET and one of the channels showing the match is Eurosport.
Poor clay swing for Monfils
This should be a great battle to finish the day with the home fans favorite Gael Monfils hoping for a good start, but clearly will need all the help he can get. The clay court season has not been great for the French 37-year-old.
So far this season he managed 12 out of 24 wins with the best achievements being a semi-final place at the Qatar Open and a 4th round finish at the Indian Wells.
He seems to be in decent shape for his age, however he’s probably hoping for a slightly less brutal match than last years first round vs Sebastian Baez where he came back from 0-4 in the 5th set to win. With a decent ATP ranking of 37 the French fans are hoping Monfils can make a proper challenge this year.
Thiago Seyboth Wild is a bit hard to predict at the moment. While Monfils has been poor this clay swing, it’s hard to say just how much Seyboth Wild will be able to test that. Having a quite disappointing record on clay this season at 8-9, can he rely on his overall powerful shots to make the difference?
The Brazilian enter this tournament off a second round exit in Lyon where he suffered a slight injury. Last year at the Roland Garros he reached the fourth round, beating Medvedev among others, and he surely has the talent to go quite deep.
H2H – Monfils vs Seyboth Wild
These two only met once before, back in 2021 where Monfils won in straight sets at the ATP Lyon clay tournament.
Predictions and Odds
The great atmosphere of the French fans will help Monfils to make this a tough and memorable match. I feel that Seyboth Wild is the slight favorite though in a match that feels very open and unpredictable.
It might be a long evening at the Court Philippe-Chatrier. We’ll go for a bet on Over 4.5 sets at valuable odds 3.25 | +225 at most of the good betting sites.
