Tennis makes a return to clay courts in Europe. Monte Carlo Masters is one of the most important clay court tournaments before the French Open. It sets the tone for many players preparing for the upcoming Grand Slam in Paris. The 118th edition of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, an ATP Masters 1000 event, is set to take place from April 6 to 13, 2025, at the Monte-Carlo Country Club. Carlos Alcaraz to win the title

According to the bookies, Carlos Alcaraz is the biggest favorite to win the title in Monte Carlo. He is currently the best clay-court player in the world and is hungry for success. The 2024 French Open champion enters Monte-Carlo with a point deficit of 2,375 compared to the previous year. After a challenging start to 2025, including early exits in Indian Wells and Miami, Alcaraz aims to regain his form on clay. After this loss in Miami, Alcaraz said that he felt dreadful.

Alcaraz made his debut at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2022. He was upset by Sebastian Korda in the 1/16 finals. His last clay court match was at the Olympic Games, where he lost to Djokovic in the final. The Spaniard was the best clay-court player last season, and we expect him to continue in that fashion in the coming weeks.

His biggest competition is Novak Djokovic (second favorite) and Alexander Zverev alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas (third favorite). Djokovic has had a solid season so far, but he has not won a single title, and his body is visibly slowly giving out. He hoped to get his 100th career title in Miami, but he was upset by Mensik in the final.

Zverev underperforming

Alexander Zverev has played in two clay court tournaments this season and underperformed in both. Earlier this season, Cerundolo upset him in Buenos Aires, winning in three sets. Just a week after, Zverev was the biggest favorite to win the title in Rio de Janeiro. However, Francisco Comesana, currently ranked outside the top 60, upset him in three tight sets. This will be his ninth appearance in Monte Carlo. His biggest result happened in 2022 when he reached the semifinals. Tstisipas defeated him last season in the third round. His last match was in Miami, where Fils upset him in the 1/8-Finals.

Stefanos Tsitsipas enjoys playing in Monte Carlo. He has won the title here for three of the last four years and is the biggest dark horse in the tournament. His last match was in Miami on hard. Tsitsipas struggled in the opening round against Tseng and fell short to Korda in the second round. So far this season, Tsitsipas won the ATP 500 title in Dubai. Other than that, he underperformed in every other tournament. He’s currently ranked No. 8, but an early loss this week could see him joining Daniil Medvedev outside the Top 10.

As mentioned, we are sure Alcaraz will be the best player next week in Monte Carlo. His competition is out of form, and without Jannik Sinner in the draw, we expect him to win the title here.

With that known, Alcaraz winning the title is surely a value bet.

Holger Rune to reach the third round or quarters

Holger Rune has already demonstrated his skills on clay, winning the 2022 BMW Open in Munich and achieving strong results in other clay-court tournaments. He enjoys playing in Monte Carlo. Last season, Rune reached the quarterfinals, where he put up a big fight against Sinner, eventually losing in three tight sets. In 2023, Rune finished as a runner-up, losing against Rublev in the final.

Looking at the draw, Rune will have a favorable draw in the opening two rounds. In the first round, Rune will face Nuno Borges, who lost to Carballes Baena in Marrakech this week. We expect Holger Rune to overcome his first obstacle easily. In the potential second round, Rune will face the winner of the Sonego vs Martinez match. We also expect him to get the job done easily in the second round.

Rune reaching at least the third round is a value bet in our predictions.

His potential third-round match will probably be against Tsitsipas. As previously mentioned, Tsitsipas is always a dark horse in Monte Carlo. However, his recent form suggests that he will also underperform in Monte Carlo. If Rune brings his A game, we expect him to do the job against Tsitsipas. Djokovic vs Alcaraz to be the finalists

As previously mentioned, we expect Alcaraz to win the title. That being said, he will be the first finalist in Monte Carlo. Looking at the second finalist, we believe Novak Djokovic will be the best. He had a great run last week in Miami and will be confident coming into this tournament. Novak won the title twice in Monte Carlo. His last clay court match was last season at the Olympic Games, where he upset Alcaraz in straight sets. He is hungry for success and will give his best to get the chance to play in another final that would bring him closer to his career ATP 100th title.

The Serb has a favorable draw. He will start the tournament in the 1/16 Finals, where he will face the winner between Wawrinka and Tabilo. We expect him to get a comfortable win and reach the 1/8 Finals without any problems.

That being said, Djokovic vs Alcaraz to be the finalists is a value bet.
