Novak Djokovic has found the form and is chasing that gold medal in Paris this year, it’s the only title he didn’t win yet in his career.
On Wednesday he’s up against Dominik Koepfer in the third round of the Paris Olympic games, and he’s a big favorite among the bookmakers at 1.04 (!) while a win for Koepfer gives 12.50.
Novak, the top seed, has not been himself this season but is starting to find great form and he’s 23-7 for the season. Following a fine Wimbledon event, where he disappointed only in the final against an excellent Alcaraz, the Serb has the Olympics as the main goal after not winning a title so far this year.
Djokovic dominated Ebden in the first round, where he lost only one game, and won quite easily against Nadal (as predicted) in the second match, 6-1, 6-4.
Dominik Koepfer has had a rather poor season but is getting some results here in Paris, beating Milos Raonic and Mattteo Arnaldi, to reach this 3rd round clash with Djokovic. He hasn’t looked super-solid though and will have problem coming up against the former no 1.
H2H
These two players met only once on the tour, back at the 2020 Rome Masters when Djokovic won in three sets.
Predictions for Djokovic vs Koepfer
Koepfer has really been fighting for the wins this week and spent quite a lot of time on court. He’s also playing the Olympics doubles event (with Jan-Lennard Struff, representing Germany) and physically it feels like the Serb has a major edge here. But not only that…
Novak is in great form and when that is the case, he can beat almost anyone, surely Dominik Koepfer in an important Olympics match. He eased through his first two opponents and hasn’t even been close to losing a set.
Prediction: We can’t see any other result than a 2-0 win for Djokovic here. At Bet442 we get the odds 4/7 for a -5.5 Game Handicap for Novak.
