We have reached the final eight of the US Open 2023. Let us have a look at the US Open 2023 Quarter-finals.
US Open 2023 Quarter-finals
It has not been easy to predict the US Open 2023 as can be seen in the US Open Bracket Challenge. I started strong in my own predictions, but have now dropped as we are getting closer to the final weekend.
If we start with the men’s draw, we still have the two top favorites, Alcaraz and Djokovic in the draw. They haven’t gone through without trouble, but as predicted, they are there.
US Open 2023 Men’s Quarter-finals
Zverev is playing excellent tennis and beat Sinner in a five-set match. Can he impose himself on Alcaraz? The answer is yes, Zverev can beat anyone when he is on form. But I still believe Alcaraz will win. It might take five sets, though. Zverev is leading the head-to-head 3-2, but Alcaraz won their last encounter.
Medvedev is a little bit of an outside favorite and I think he enjoys that position. He is playing his buddy Rublev in an all-Russian encounter. I think Medvedev is the strong favorite based on the 5-2 head-to-head record.
Then we have the all-American encounter between Tiafoe and Shelton. Tiafoe is looking to make his second semi-final at the Open. Shelton is playing the tennis of his life. They have never played before. I believe Tiafoe’s experience will be too much for his young opponent. But this will be an exciting match of power vs cunning.
The last quarter-final is Fritz vs Djokovic. Fritz has never gotten this far in his home slam, while Djokovic is comfortably used to these stages. Djokovic has a 7-0 head-to-head record, so I don’t see that changing.
US Open 2023 Women’s Quarter-finals
I had high hopes for Coco Gauff before the tournament started and she has shown that she is ready for the challenge. However, an Ostapenko in form is dangerous to anyone, as was evident when she beat Swiatek in the round before. Ostapenko won their last battle at the Australian Open, but I think Coco Gauff is ready.
I don’t think many punters predicted Sorana Cirstea to go far in this Grand Slam, but she has done a great job. Muchova has a 3-1 head-to-head but Cirstea won their last match in Miami. I think Muchova will be the stronger one in New York.
Marketa Vondrousova is in the form of her life. Winning Wimbledon seems to have opened up her confidence. Is it enough to defeat an in-form Madison Keys? Yes, I think so. They have never played before.
In the fourth quarter-final, we have Qinwen Zheng playing world number one, Aryna Sabalenka. They have never faced off before, but Sabalenka should be the overwhelming favorite and I believe she will win.
Most players mentioned above have player profiles and racquet info on Tennisnerd. Such as this article about Aryna Sabalenka’s racquet.
