I’ve previously reviewed the new Italian racket brands spin model Spindeeper 300Â which was a very pleasant surprise and proved that you can be innovative and “new” in the congested tennis gear market. Now I have also thoroughly tested their top-of-the-line tennis string, the One Strings Carbon NRG. It’s a soft black co-poly created mostly for advanced players who seek control. The control makes it possible for you to take big cuts and the ball and in so doing create lots of spin, especially on a spin frame such as the Spindeeper 300 (or 315). I tried this string in the …

Sometimes it’s refreshing and entertaining to read old books. Last week I stumbled upon an old classic in a used book fair called “How to Play Winning Tennis” by a certain Rod Laver. It offers Grand Slam champion Laver talking about his career, interspersed with tennis instruction and general advice such as “use the Eastern grip.” with a drawing of how that grip looks like. Laver is one of the best tennis players of all time, but I have a tendency to not bother with the old greats, because the game is so different today. But looking at Youtube clips …
Awesome new tool to work on your tennis game? I don’t know but sure looks and sounds cool. Here’s the video giving you the details about The Sweet Spotter: I haven’t yet tested this bat myself, but I’m really keen too. Always nice to see new ways to work on your tennis game, especially if you prefer mid-size rackets like me. There’s something nice about producing your own power and hitting the ball in the middle of the racket and the Sweet Spotter might help you do just that more frequently. I really appreciate Yann Auzoux’s coaching wisdom so I think …
I have had the opportunity to play-test Italian tennis manufacturer One Strings Spindeeper 300 model with their unique string pattern of 14×19 for a few weeks. They’ve received a lot of buzz for their inspired design using white as the base colour and different (changeable) colors for grommets. After all, it’s Italian engineering and One Strings could potentially be the future Ferrari of tennis rackets. Something that strikes you just by picking up the racket is the feel. Sometimes you know a racket will be good to you just by holding it in your hand and with One Strings this …
Got the opportunity to play-test the new Wilson Blade 93 (2013) tennis racket and for a mid-size racket it hits like a dream. You get a sense of the scalpel-like feel already when you pick it up and weigh it in your hand and hitting with it is nothing short of spectacular. I felt completely in control of my shots and whatever I put in – the racket delivered. Especially on serve and volley, the Wilson Blade 93 shines. Also, the paint job is fantastic with a Darth Vader feel to its matte black/grey color scheme. So what’s not to …
It’s not a simple quest. For me it’s almost eternal. I’m never completely happy with my frame – it almost feels like my tennis soul never will find peace. As I’m writing in “My Tennis Racquets” I’m currently playing with the Head IG Prestige MP and the Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 90 BLX but I can’t really make up my mind. Maybe I need something in between like a Volkl Powerbridge or a Wilson Six.One 95? These thoughts keep going back and forth in my head. But I can’t keep changing my racquets forever. I need to make up my mind and stick …
Today Roger Federer took one step closer to the number one position in the world through beating Novak Djokovic in a fireworks display that ended 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3. Since I’m such a Federer fan and a “racquetaholic”, I’ve managed to set up a good deal exclusive for Tennisnerd readers. The first offer is $30 off on one of my favorite racquet series, Dunlop Biomimetic. I was always a fond of 200 and 300 (Verdasco), but 500 (Almagro) is great for players with loads of top spin and an aggressive game. The second offer is on the more control-focused Wilson …
I’ve been reading this excellent book on tennis called The Inner Game of Tennis and I think it could apply to many things and not only different sports. It’s about reaching what many sports enthusiast call “the zone” through finding a term that author Timothy Galway call relaxed concentration. So how do you reach that stage where every stroke or movement comes natural to you? A lot of the book deals with being less judgmental of yourself, you know how you want to scream “Idiot” or something even worse every time you mishit a shot or do something stupid on …
Mr Nastase is a great and candid book from a fantastic player and personality, Ilie Nastase. I’ve read a LOT of tennis player biographies and this one’s up there among the top tennis books. This is a good review from top Amazon reviewer Gaetan Lion. Buy the book here and support this blog This is an entertaining book about one of the most charismatic players of the Open era. Win or loose he enjoyed the game like few ever did. He was active on the ATP tour until 37. And, he still reached the 4th round of the US …
