There is now a Functional Tennis Saber Junior version. As you know, I’m a big fan of this product as a training tool. I am a regular user of the Functional Tennis Saber and brought it to the court as recently as yesterday when there was a group of Dutch tennis nerds visiting Marbella to be coached by my friend Nikki Roenn. I brought some rackets to the session and the Saber is always a head-turner. I always get the same reaction: it’s easier to use than you think. I have the Functional Tennis Saber Lite (click for my review) …

There is a press release on the official ATP tour website where the ATP and Tennis Data Innovations launch Tennis IQ – a performance analytics platform. Tennis IQ – Bringing data to ATP professionals ATP and Tennis Data Innovations (TDI) have announced the launch of Tennis IQ. A platform that is supposed to democratize access to cutting-edge data and insights for players on the ATP Tour. Tennis IQ gives ATP singles players access to advanced match analytics. The ERT 300 is an iconic little machine to measure the dynamic string tension of your racquet. This is used by stringers worldwide. The ERT 300 is back I have used my second-hand ERT 300 ever since I started stringing. It allows me to be exact in my stringing over and over again and check it’s time to restring my racquet. The ERT measures DT, which means dynamic tension or stringbed stiffness. You can buy the ERT 300 from the official website and if you use the code tennisnerd, you get 10% off. What is DT? The DT value is …

What is the smallest tennis racquet in the world? Well, there are miniature racquets, but the smallest playable one is the Saber. The Smallest Tennis Racquet in the World I created a FT Saber review a while back, but I like revisiting this racquet and enjoy bringing it to different players I train with. Yesterday I hit with Malta’s best tennis player, Matthew Asciak, and we gave the Saber a proper test. He had never tried it before, but I could see the sense of surprise and enjoyment on his face as he realized that it wasn’t as difficult to …

The AI platform Swingvision raises 2 million dollars in funding from Wildcard Ventures to grow their business even further. I’ve been using Swingvision from time to time to cut out dead time from my sessions and analyze my game. The app is capable of much more and I guess they’re pushing even harder now that Swingvision raises 2 million dollars through new investments coming in from Wildcard Ventures, with participation from Sony Innovation Fund, Techstars, Afterwork Ventures, and Amino Capital, as well as MyFitnessPal co-founders Albert and Mike Lee, Handshake co-founder Garrett Lord, and Brex Co-CEO Benjamin Wu. You might have seen me hit a blacked-out prototype of the Functional Tennis Saber in one of my videos. Now it’s available for pre-sale. The Functional Tennis Saber is a sweet spot training tool for ambitious players and coaches to work on a player’s contact point. You don’t have a lot of margin for error with the 37 sq inch head size of the Saber, but that’s the whole point. You need to make sure you contact the ball close to perfect to get a decent shot. But the Saber is not as difficult to use as the Tennis Pointer. …
I was looking for tennis training tools and found a gravity belt review. But what is a gravity belt and what does it do? Every ambitious tennis player tries to find that extra edge to be stronger, faster, play better and win more matches. There are many different tennis tools to work on those goals and you might have seen videos of pro players training using resistance bands. Why? To improve their strength and movement. This leads us to the question: what is a gravity belt? The Gravity Belt uses variable resistance to keep the player in a lower, more …
I’ve been testing the Retenser, a Dutch innovation which allows you to adjust your string tension after stringing. You add the Retenser while stringing, which is fairly simple and it then allows you to increase or reduce the string tension. There is also a Retenser Pro version with three cylinders and a few more options. I have yet to test that one, but will do so shortly. Does it work? I’m always skeptical about these types of innovations, but I try to enter each review with an open mind. I installed the product on my Tecnifibre T-Rebound IGA 298 and …
