There are a few players on the ATP and WTA Tour who have played with many different racquets. What is Elise Mertens racquet? If you check the archives for Elise Mertens tennis pics you will notice that she has tried many different racquets. In recent times she has gone from a HEAD Speed to a Babolat Pure Aero and now most recently to a Tecnifibre Tempo 298 IGA. Digging through the archives I also saw a Prince and a Pure Drive. I don’t know Elise Mertens racquet specs, but on the WTA tour most players seem to play close to …
3 or 5 sets? I am always more drawn to the Grand Slams, partly because they are the most important but I also enjoy the five-set format. In my opinion, the five-set format creates more room for seesaw and drama. We all want a match to be a story, right? I think the issue with three-set matches is that if a player starts slowly, the match can quickly run away from them. The possibility of coming back from two sets down creates some breathing room for the player. Should women play 3 or 5 sets? I would love to see …
Earlier this year, 18-year-old Emma Raducanu shocked the sporting world by powering her way to the US Open title in impressive style. The Canadian-born British starlet romped past some of the biggest names in women’s tennis, all without dropping a single set on her route to success. It was quite a sensation for a young lady who was playing in just her second major tournament to date. The story is one that has captured the imaginations of countless budding young tennis players across the globe, as well as given the long-suffering British public a female figure to cheer on to …
We predicted it all along! :) Ash Barty wins Wimbledon after defeating Karolina Pliskova 6-3 6-7 6-3. It’s her 2nd grand slam title. Ash Barty wins Wimbledon after being ranked number one in the world in the WTA rankings and seeded 1 at Wimbledon. She was the better player all along in the final, but Pliskova, to her credit, fought well and came back from a set and a break down to win the second set 7-6. Barty was serving for the title at 5-4 in the second set, but got visibly tight, and was broken. The match then seemed to …

I woke up to the news that Naomi Osaka is going to refuse press conferences at the French Open. She cites mental health reasons. Osaka announced on social media that she won’t do the mandatory press conferences during Roland Garros and just pay the fines that are incurred for avoiding them . She writes in her statement: “I’ve often felt that people have no regard for athletes’ mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one. We’re often sat there and asked questions that we’ve been asked multiple times before or asked …

Yeah, it’s a headline for brevity. When I write “is the WTA better than the ATP?”, I mean – is it more interesting to watch at the moment? I’ve been thinking about this question because I haven’t paid much attention to the WTA since the days of Justin Henin-Hardenne, a player whose one-handed backhand was so impressive, you could watch it just for that. Why? The main reason is that it’s almost impossible to keep up to date with two tours. But women’s tennis was many years not the most fun to watch, where it was all grunting baseline power …
