Kyle Edmund’s Racquet

by TN

I was lucky enough to witness Kyle Edmund take a set from Rafael Nadal in Monte Carlo 2017 and was amazed by the power of his forehand. Now he’s in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2018! What racquet does he use?

Kyle Edmund is playing with the legendary Wilson Six One 95 racquet in 18×20 string pattern painted as Wilson Pro Staff 97. The Six One series is more than 20 years old and has been Wilson’s flagship line since it came out, was discontinued, but later brought back to life again since so many pro’s and recreational players still enjoy that racquet.

Which version of the Wilson Six One 95 that Edmund uses can be debated, some think it’s the red/black BLX version and others the more flexible Wilson nSix One 95 (nCode was a slightly more flexible version than the other Six Ones.

Edmund is using a hybrid setup of Luxilon Alu Power Rough and Wilson Sensation. I’m not sure what tension he strings it at. I also wonder why a pro player would use Sensation instead of Natural gut, but that’s another story.

Can Edmund go farther in the Australian Open? Well, why not? When a player that hits rocket ship forehands is in the form of his life and believes in his game, anything can happen!

Other Kyle Edmund tennis gear:
Nike tennis shirt
Nike tennis shorts
Nike Vapor Tour 9.5 tennis shoes
Wilson Pro overgrip
Nike tennis cap

Edmund is currently ranked 49 in the world at 23 years of age. Does he have the potential to become Britain’s next tennis star after Andy Murray? Top ten? Please comment!

On the subject of using Sensation in a hybrid setup. One possibility is that Sensation adds a good amount of touch or feel in the same way gut would, without a lot of the tuning variables that come with natural gut. I have tried various gut setups and under optimum conditions related to temperature, gauge, humidity, age of the string and all the variables associated with the surface and opponent gut can be more finicky than Sensation.

Maybe he’s vegan and doesnt use gut for ethical reasons?

I’d imagine the not using gut would be for cost purposes. Even pros have to pay for natural gut, and even for a top 100 player, this expense will really add up as they are restringing so frequently.
