New Prince Phantom Racquets

by Jonas Eriksson

Do you like comfort, thin beams, but a more forgiving head size? Check out the New Prince Phantom Racquets.

The new Prince Phantom racquets go from the silvery metallic color of the predecessor to a more green camo-inspired cosmetic. According to Henrik Wallensten, who has reviewed them for me, they look great in person.

There will be a bunch of models released, but for now, only the heavier 320-gram Phantom 100X and the 290-gram lighter version are available from Tennis Warehouse Europe where you’ll find most of the best tennis racquets. Remember that you get 10% off if you buy anything from TWE using the code TNERD10 except for Asics and heavily discounted products.

Tech

The ATS technology known from the Tour models is also included here. The Anti-Torque System is located at 10 & 2 in the head and combines Textreme with Zylon, a synthetic polymer added in 2024 to further enhance stability without compromising maneuverability. Prince also combines Zylon and Textreme in the shaft to further enhance stability and optimize the feel.

I still play the original PP100 and the 100x 305 (a couple of grams of lead in the hoop, and plenty of blu tack), like the color scheme of the original, the “colors” of the latter are just blah. The new boiled peas scheme looks ok to me, though would need to test to see if the tech actually makes any difference as it appears the stiffness etc are the same.

I’m a huge fan of the Phantoms (the 18×20 in particular). I still play the Phantom Pro 100 320g (2017) and the 100x 320g (2020). Both brilliant raquets, almost as good as the Angell K7 lime, which is my raquet of choice.

Having said that, I can see no reason whatsoever why I should even buy the latest iteration. First off, it’s remarkably ugly. Apart from that, the only change is aparently that Twaron hast been replaced by Zylon. Big Deal. Other than that it just seems to be the 100x 320g with a repulsive new PJ. On a brighter note, it’s probably high time to buy another 100x (2020) for a fraction of the original price :-)

I’ve been monitoring to see if there will be improvements to the 2019 Prince Phantom Pro 100 (18×20) racket. The new versions beem widths are thicker. I keep hoping they’ll give me the same specs but with new improved tech. I own 6 of the same racket and use Solinco TourBite/HyperG 20g on the mains with Gosen Micro OG Sheep 18g multi-filament on the cross 54/52 lbs. I like the como, but the cosmetics are not my concern.

Length 27 in 69 cm
Head Size 100 sq in 645 sq cm
Weight 11.9 oz 337 gm (11.3/ 320 unstrung)

Construction 20.5mm / 19.5mm / 16.5mm /
