Bio and Career
Hugo Gaston was born on September 26th, 2000, in Toulouse, France, and he started playing tennis already at the age of 2.
Gaston turned pro in 2018 after a successful junior career, where he reached world No. 2, won the 2018 Australian Open boys doubles with Clรฉment Tabur, and claimed gold in singles at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, earning the flag-bearer role for France.
Gaston got onto the ATP tour scene at the 2020 Roland Garros, then ranked number 239, defeating Stan Wawrinka in five sets to reach the fourth round – the lowest-ranked player to do so since 2004. He pushed Dominic Thiem to five sets, captivating 5.6 million French viewers. In 2021, he reached his first ATP final in Gstaad, losing to Casper Ruud, and made the Paris Masters quarterfinals, winning against Carlos Alcaraz. His career-high ranking of No. 58 came on July 11, 2022, after consistent Challenger success, including four titles, notably Trieste and Iasi in 2023.
In 2024, Gaston reached the Antwerp semifinals, beating Alex de Minaur, but also faced setbacks, including a big fine for unsportsmanlike conduct at Madrid, one of a few controversies Gaston has been involved in.
