Jared Donaldson’s Racquet

by Jonas Eriksson

American 20-year-old Jared Donaldson is one of the big next generation hopes and in Cincinnati he’s shown the results to match. What racquet does he play with?

Jared Donaldson is having a great win at the Cincinnati masters with wins against Roberto Bautista-Agut (click for an article about what racquet Bautista-Agut plays with), Ramkumar Ramanathan and Nikoloz Bashilashvili and will play his quarter-finals match against John Isner (click here to know about John Isner’s racquet). It will be a tough test since Isner’s serve is on fire so far in Cincinnati.

Donaldson is coached by ex-players Mardy Fish and Jan-Michael Gambill and is endorsing a HEAD Graphene XT Prestige Pro strung with (not a hundred percent sure here) Luxilon Alu Power 1.25. Under the nice Graphene XT paint job is the last great (in my opinion) HEAD line of racquets with “Innegra” and the pro stock code for his HEAD IG Prestige Pro is 293.1. Like I’ve mentioned in previous articles, pretty much all the racquets in the Innegra line-up were great, such as the HEAD IG Radical Pro, the HEAD IG Prestige MP and so on.

I don’t know what customization Donaldson bring to the 293.1, but I assume he started playing with the racquets in stock form and since the Innegra line featured quite heavy racquets that required little to no customization – the specs would work for him also on higher levels of the game. The HEAD IG Prestige Pro came at around 345 grams strung with a swing weight of more than 320+ so it does pack a punch.

After publishing this post, I got a reply on Twitter from Courtney Donaldson saying that Donaldons’ specs were “HEAD Prestige with no over grip and no strings 335 grams balance of 316mm head light”.

How far can Donaldson go? It’s hard to tell at the moment. He seems to be a level-headed and mature young guy and if he can start to notch up some wins against better opposition his confidence will grow and together with guys like Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz US tennis seems to have a pretty bright future.
