Jelena Ostapenko’s Racquet

by Jonas Eriksson

Latvian 20-year-old Jelena Ostapenko came from nowhere and won the French Open and now she’s just won her first round in Wimbledon. What racquet does she use?

Ostapenko is swinging a lime green and black Wilson racquet knows at the Wilson Blade 98 LE (limited edition) strung with Luxilon 4G string (around 26-27 kg). Like a lot of professional tennis players (here’s the list!), Ostapenko’s racquet is speculated to be something else and then painted to look like a Wilson Blade 98 LE. The seemingly most correct guess of what she’s really playing is a Wilson Steam 100. Whatever she’s using she does hit a mean ball and is not afraid to go for winners.

Some comments point to that she’s using a lot of lead tape on her Wilson Blade 98 LE (or Steam 100) racquets – but confirmation on how much and where is yet to be made.

Can Jelena Ostapenko win consecutive slams now that Serena Williams (read about Serena’s racquet in this post) is out of the draw due to pregnancy? Or will there be another upset winner on the women’s side? Please comment your thoughts below.

Your info about the racquet is wrong. It’s not a Blade she’s using – its 16 x 20 and with a bigger head size. It’s actually a repainted Steam 100 – 27.25″, 100sq”, 16×20 etc.

Aha, will update the post! Lots of players using that Steam mold! Cheers / J
