murray wants a masters 1000 in south america

Andy Murray usually like giving his opinions and this time he gets approval from a lot of big names when he’s calling for South America to have its own swing with a Masters 1000 event.

The former world No 1 calls this an “unpopular opinion”, however most seem to agree with him.

The reason for this is basically the amazing support from the fans on most major tournament down there and we tend to agree. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere in most tennis tournaments in the South American countries.

“Vamos, ATPTour!”

“South America should have its own dedicated swing on the tennis tour with its own masters series. The way the fans support the tournaments there is incredible.” Murray commented on X and continued:

“Amazing atmospheres and tennis is clearly part of their sporting culture. Vamos ATP Tour!”

Maybe Murray was watching fellow British player Cameron Norrie in his semi-final in Rio Open, a city where he himself has played and had great success in the Olympics.

Becker Agrees

Most replies on his tweet give the opinion of “this shouldn’t be an unpopular opinion” and one of the is from legend Boris Becker.

“Why unpopular?!? You’re absolutely right about your opinion Andy! Tennis should go to countries/continents where tennis is booming…” is the reply of Becker.

Andy Murray is now himself preparing for his first match in the Dubai Tennis Championships against Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
