Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari to play at the Berlin Ladies Open

From 15th to 23rd June 2024, the popular WTA grass court tournament previously known as the German Open, Berlin Ladies Open will return to the German capital. This WTA 500 and “Wimbledon flair” event is known for it’s presence of high level players and great international TV coverage, and we expect a big tournament as usual at the Steffi Graf Stadium in 2024.

The field announced to play in Berlin this year is getting more exciting lately with the additions of world no 2 Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari.

Sabalenka is also the current Australian Open champion and Sakkari, ranked 7th in the world is the last year’s semi-finalist in Berlin.

Barbara Rittner, tournament director is excited of the latest editions as “they are outstanding players on grass. It’s great to have such an charismatic player like Aryna Sabalenka in the tournament, who is an absolute eye-catcher with her whole personality and her emotional appearance on the court. And with her outstanding athleticism, Maria Sakkari is always a very special attraction.”

A great warm-up for Wimbledon

Around 30,000 fans attend this tournament usually and it features prize money of 922,573 USD. Being played not long after the French Open and as a warm-up for the Wimbledon, the Berlin event is important for a lot of the top players. Most years you’ll see the majority of the Top 20 players taking part in the Berlin Ladies Open.
