After a rain-filled yesterday, the matches today have been of extremely high class. Some highlights and thoughts:
I am happy short Italian Fognini beat Monfils after that darkness debacle. They should have stopped at 4-4. You can’t play if you can’t see the ball. But Monfils got the crowd all wired up and they started booing at Fognini for every point he won. It was a weird match that ended with Fognini winning the 5th set 9-7 the next day.
The Ukrainian junior Dolgopolov is a great talent and a very skilled clay court player. I am not that surprised that he actually managed to take out Gonzales. But I am impressed!
Nadal cruises in three. Go figure.
Ljubicic beat Fish in a five-setter. Shows that the “old man” still got a lot of play left in him.
Federer is also in cruising mode (three straight sets against German Reister) and it looks like we can start looking forward to another Fedal! What a treat that would be!
Berdych is looking very good right now and will soon be up 2 sets to 0 against Isner.
Soderling is up a set against Montanes and is hitting the ball very well. Montanes is mostly running 2 meters behind the baseline trying to get everything back.
Dutch talent De Bakker is playing an extremely exciting match against Tsonga. He is up a set and the second one seems to be going towards a tie-break.
Young Argentine Mayer is pushing Cilic to his limits. One all in sets and a tight third set.
Murray looked to be smashing Baghdatis after two easy sets, but then he loses the 3rd one by 6-0!
So it is a fantastic French Open day today. Be sure to watch the rest of it!
