This week have some mighty line-ups in the world of tennis with all of the fantastic four (is it five with Wawrinka? Please discuss.) in action. Federer and Murray (plays tomorrow) take part in Dubai Duty Free Championships and the great Fed started his campaign with a win over the streaky Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-1 6-3. It wasn’t much of a test for Federer, Paire had injury concerns (foot) and didn’t seem ready to fight.
Can Federer win Dubai? Why not? He’s rested, confident and has won there many times before. Murray will be a stern competitor, but has to regain some self-belief after his weak Australian Open performance.
In the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, Djokovic and Rafa are in the draw along with Rio Open winner Dominic Thiem. There are of course also other dangerous players such as Marin Cilic and Juan Martin Del Potro so the legends will have their hands full to add another title to their impressive roster. Djokovic is of course the favorite. But Rafa is back to play for titles and Thiem seems keen on getting back to last year’s form – the one that got him inside top ten to begin with.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is taking a break after playing lots of tennis the last two weeks with title wins in both Rotterdam and Marseille. He is expecting to become a father soon and might not play Indian Wells and Miami which is a shame due to his great form, but having a baby is of course another kind of, more important, victory.
An interesting week of tennis awaits!
