Iga Swiatek is the new 2024 French Open champion after a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win in the final against tournament surprise Jasmine Paolini!
As most of us expected, Swiatek had no problems overcoming the 28-year-old Italian and this means a 3rd successive French Open women’s title and her 4th in total. The Pole also extended her French Open winning streak to 21 matches as the last loss in France came in the in 2021 quarter-finals to Maria Sakkari.
The win today also gives Swiatek her fifth Grand Slam title in total counting her US Open win.
The world no 1 overcame some obstacles in the beginning of the first set as Paolini broke for a surprise 2-1 lead. At that point some of us thought it would be a tighter affair then the pre-odds would suggest. However, Iga then went on to win eleven of the coming twelve games and the title was never in doubt.
After one hour and eight minutes, a dominant Iga Swiatek could register a 6-2, 6-1 final win on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
“I love this place, I wait every year to play here,” Swiatek commented after the match.

Who can stop Iga?
At the moment, no player on the tour is able to stop the world no 1. She dropped just one set throughout the Roland Garros tournament and she now joins big names such as Monica Seles (1990-92) and Justine Henin (2005-07) in winning the French Open three times in a row.
It will be interesting to see how she can conquer the upcoming grass season and if she can adapt her play in a similar dominant fashion.
