Milos Raonic is back

After two years away from the tour with injuries, “Missile” Milos Raonic is back with a bang. He defeated Kecmanovic at the Libema Open in straight sets.

Milos Raonic is back

Milos Raonic did not display loads of rust in his return to the tour after two years. He likes the grass and showed it at the Libema Open, beating a strong player in Miomir Kecmanovic 6/3 6/4.

This is what he said to the ATP Tour:

“It’s nice to be here after almost two years now and stepping away for a long time,” said Raonic after his emotional comeback triumph at the grass-court ATP 250. “It’s nice to be giving it one more try and hopefully going as far as I can. I’ve put in the best effort I could, and I want to see how far it takes me.

“It’s been a real pleasure to get to play in front of people. I didn’t get to hit a single tennis ball for a full year, now I get to play in front of a bunch of people. It was pretty nerve-wracking, I forgot that feeling. To be honest with you it might have been a little bit easier if I played in front of nobody today.”

An in-form and hungry Milos will be a danger to anyone on the grass.

What is up with Berrettini?

Matteo Berrettini played compatriot Lorenzo Sonego today at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, Germany. A tournament he has won two years in a row. But he has been sidelined with injuries and this was the first match he played in two months. Sonego is a good player and likes the grass, but Berrettini’s 6/2 6/1 loss is a troubling sign. The Boss player was in tears as he left the court, which might be a tell that he is still struggling physically. Something is up and it’s tough to see because Matteo is usually such a positive guy with a true fighting spirit. He will now drop in the rankings, but can hopefully be back in good shape in time for Wimbledon.

Another somewhat surprising result was that Huesler beat serve-and-volley style player Cressy in straight sets. When you go from the clay to the grass, you can expect some “mysterious” results…

I will be at the Boss Open from Wednesday to watch some of the action up close so make sure to follow my Instagram, where I will upload more regular updates.

Hello Mr. Tennisnerd

I was watching the round of 16 match between Kei Nishikori and Mitchell Krueger, and I heard Nishikori ask for a racket to be strung at 57/54 lbs (mains/crosses). I found this to be strange, as Nishikori used to string very low. I thought maybe the new racket was very powerful, even though it is 18×19? I hope this information is useful.

As always, I love this website, so please keep posting.
