More trouble for Djokovic, out of the Geneva ATP

Tomas Machac

Novak Djokovic have had a rather troubled season so far with very mixed results and it does not seem to end here. Following todays shock defeat to Tomas Machac in the Geneva semi-final he’s now heading to Roland Garros on the back of a defeat and even more question marks surrounding his form.

The world no 1, who had his 37th birthday this week, was beaten with the strange numbers 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 and he has yet to reach a final in 2024.

Tomas Machac, who actually almost beat Djokovic last year in Dubai, recorded a fine victory and he’s now entering his first career final.

The 44th ranked Czech looked sharp and took his first match point in the first set in Novak’s serve. Following a lack of focus in the 2nd set, he really fought to break down the Serb that also reportedly was feeling ill at times during the match.

After the match Machac commented:

“I have no reaction right now; I just fought for every ball. If you play against Novak you just have to try your best and see what happens.”

Tomas Machac will now face either Flavio Cobolli or Casper Ruud in the final and he will surely be a challenge for anyone at the moment.

For Djokovic, he will of course be turning his attention to the French Open but probably this was not the ideal preparation. He is, himself, playing down his chances to defend his title.
