Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon

by Jonas Eriksson

Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon 2021 and his 20th grand slam title. I think with this result, he also pretty much kills the GOAT debate.

I made a video before Wimbledon about the tiresome GOAT debate. I think they’re all GOATs in a way, but to be fair, Novak is the most successful male tennis player that has ever lived and he is not stopping here. He can technically win a couple of more grand slams. He will be the favorite for the Olympics and the US Open. How long will he have the burning desire to win tennis matches, tournaments and achieve records? We will see. But I think he is done when Rafa and Roger are done. It’s still a race, but Novak just made a dent in the whole GOAT discussion.

Big kudos to Matteo Berrettini who fought like a tiger and made it into a match despite the lopsided predictions. He served well and hit his big forehand hammer blow for a fair share of winners, but in the end, I think his backhand weakness becomes his issue. And when Djokovic smells there is a problem in the opponent’s game, he pounces like a wildcat on a prowl. This is what makes him so good. Strategically and mentally, there has not been a better tennis player.

Novak Djokovic Wins Wimbledon – the vlog

I have enjoyed doing these daily Wimbledon vlogs. It’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. I will start to mix up the content a bit more, but I hope to be able to continue with daily videos of some sort. At least weekly, I will do a review of the week in tennis and what has been going on in tennis news. I hope you find that entertaining. Thanks to all of you who have followed my recaps. It’s not my usual content, but you got to mix it up sometimes.

Big congrats to Novak for his 20th Grand Slam, but also to Berrettini for a fantastic grass-court season.

Djokovic the GOAT, with more championships pending, Federer the most revered, and Nadal the greatest fighter.

I think Djocovic definitely will win more Grand Slams, probably 24 – 30 Grand Slams in total. It will depend on his motivation. Once he reaches 22, I don’t think anyone will ever beat that record. Nadal might win 1 more French Open but no more than that. Roger is out unfortunately. Once Djoco is out of reach, only thing stopping him from winning more will be his motivation to continue. Physically, I think he could win Grand Slams until he is 40 years old.

Interesting though that majority of fans seem to prefer Federer and Nadal, myself included. I always wondered why? Djocovic seems like a nice person and in the interviews I think he is fantastic. Very respectful and full of insights. The three of them are truly great. Awesome that with so different styles of play, they have all reached 20 Grands Slams. Truly outstanding and out of this world.
