Quick guide to the Olympic Tennis Games this summer
Just around two months after the French Open, tennis will return to Paris with the 2024 Olympics and we’ll see many of the best players in the world going after the gold medals.
There’s a total of 184 players from 41 countries in the official entry list, the singles draws feature 64 players while 32 teams are listed for the doubles (men and women). There’s also the mixed doubles, those 16 teams will be set later on 24th July.
All singles matches are best of 3 sets. The doubles games are also best of 3 sets but a match tie-break will be contested instead of a third set.
There are no ranking points for players at the Olympics.
When? There will be tennis matches over nine days, from Saturday 27th July – Sunday 4th August, 2024.
Where? Roland Garros stadium, Paris, France. In total 12 match courts and 6 practice courts. Main court is Court Philippe Chatrier (15K capacity).
Who’s playing?
We’ll see some defending Olympic champions in action this summer, Alexander Zverev (men’s singles), Barbora Krejcikova / Katerina Siniakova (women’s doubles) and Nikola Mektic / Mate Pavic (men’s doubles).
Rafa Nadal is of course a former gold medalist and in Paris we’ll see him playing doubles with Carlos Alcaraz, which should be an entertaining mix. Another legend, Andy Murray, is surely playing his last Olympic games as well.
A few of the other big names include recent double Slam winner Alcaraz, Sinner, Swiatek, Djokovic, Gauff and Rybakina.
Some of the worlds top players are not included in the Paris Games, and there are several reasons why players are withdrawing from the Olympics. Usually it’s due to a very tight tour schedule, injuries or political reasons. Also, especially for the women’s games, there are several big names missing out (ex, world No 17 Emma Navarro) just due to the fact that there are already other players from their countries ranked higher than them.
