Tragic Loss Strikes Tennis Star Aryna Sabalenka just before Miami Open, as Ex-Boyfriend Passes Away.
As we were all tuning into the first matches of the Miami Open, the whole tennis world was shocked by the news of the death of Aryna Sabalenka’s previous boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov. The 23-year-old Belarusian player, one of the favorites for the Miami Masters title, is now facing an unimaginable personal tragedy.
Konstantin Koltsov was previously a professional NHL hockey player with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was frequently seen at tennis tournaments supporting Sabalenka.
Koltsov died in Miami on Monday, 42 years old, and the details of the death is still unclear. However, the police had described it as an “apparent suicide” and a comment from the Miami Police Department also clarified that “no foul play is suspected”.
Support for Sabalenka
Fans and fellow players alike have taken to social media platforms to express their condolences and support for Sabalenka during this difficult time. Messages of love and solidarity have flooded in from all corners of the globe.
Aryna explained in a story on her Instagram yesterday that she and Koltsov were no longer together as a couple, before his death.
“Konstantin’s death is an unthinkable tragedy, and while we were no longer together, my heart is broken,” Sabalenka commented. “Please respect my privacy and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
For now it seems her participation in the Miami Open will go on as planned, and she is facing her good friend Paula Badosa in the second round on Friday.
“Playing against her [Sabalenka], will be uncomfortable,” commented Badosa and continued “She’s a strong woman. I think she will get the power from somewhere. I hope it’s going to be a battle, a good match.”
