The year 2021 has started and with it, new tennis events are being scheduled. We have all waited a whole year for tournaments to be fully resumed again, and fans are finally excited with new calendars of tennis events which are popping up everywhere. So, if you are a big fan interested in watching some of the biggest tennis events in 2021, here is the schedule.
Australian Open
Usually, the Australian Open is held in January, but this year it is postponed to being on the 8th of February. It will take place in Melbourne, as always at the John Cain Arena in Melbourne Park. This is the first of the four major Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and it is later followed by the French Open in May, Wimbledon in June and US Open in August.
As a reminder, the current Australian Open champions are Novak Djokovic and Sofia Kenin in singles, while doubles champions are Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, and Timea Bobos and Kristina Mladenovic.
At the moment, they are currently planning to allow a limited number of fans at the tournament, and tickets are on sale. Also, the tournament will have zoned seating for three major stadiums: Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena and Rod Laver Arena.
French Open
Also called Roland Garros, the French Open is played in Paris, France at the Stade Roland Garros. Typically, Roland Garros starts in late May and it is done by early June, and this is the second Grand Slam of the year. Last year, the dates for this tournament were a bit different, and it was held from September 21 to October 11, but this year, the dates are as usual. French Open is scheduled to begin on May 23rd and end on June 6th.
Current champions of the French Open are Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek in singles, while the doubles are holding Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz and Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Bobos.
Wimbledon
This is the most anticipated and biggest of the four Grand Slams in tennis. Wimbledon takes place in London at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, and millions of fans are excited about this tournament. Typically, Wimbledon starts in late June and ends in early July. However, the 2020 Wimbledon Championships have been canceled and the dates were supposed to be from June 29th to July 12th. Due to the cancelation and announcement of the tournament taking place this year, there were refunds for purchased tickets and people had the chance to buy the same date and ticket for 2021 matches. The new dates for 2021 for Wimbledon taking place is from June 28th to July 11th.
The current champions of 2019 Wimbledon are Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep in singles, while the doubles champions are Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, and Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova.
After last year’s cancelation fans were disappointed, but with this new year comes new dates for Wimbledon. This is great news for all the fans that would simply like to support their favorite players, but it is also great news for all the punters. US Open
The US Open is the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. It is held in the US in New York at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Last year, the US Open was finished on September 13 and it was slightly different than usual. There were no fans present, no qualifying draws for singles and there were no mixed doubles draws. This year, the US Open will take place like each year, around Labor Day, starting on August 20th until September 12th.
Last year, the singles champions were Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka, while the in doubles those were Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares, and Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva.
This year the four major Grand Slams are all scheduled and if you wish to be present at the tournaments, look at the updates for certain dates. But, all matches will be broadcasted and you can easily follow them and place your bets if you wish.
