The Wimbledon Championships has announced a record £50 million prize money offering for the 2024 event.
The European grass season is in full swing and we have a few warm-up ATP tournaments leading up to the big event of the summer, the 2024 Wimbledon in London.
The All England Club was recently announcing a few details regarding the tournament in the annual spring briefing that took place two days ago. As expected, the prize money was one of the main topics of interest.
A record prize money pot
The total prize pot is being increased by 11.9% from last year (£44.7 million in 2023) and is now at £50 million.
The singles champions of both the men’s and women’s competition will receive £2.7 million while the and runners-up will get £1.4 million. For the singles competition, the first round prize money was set at £60K.
This means that the Wimbledon singles winner this summer will get a £350,000 increase compared to the money that was awarded to last year’s winners: Carlos Alcaraz and Marketa Vondrousova.
This new £50 million prize pot is twice the £25 million that was offered to players at Wimbledon 10 years ago.
