Not only did he beat Djokovic in his first match, but he followed it with a convincing win against Goffin. It is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was born in Malaga, Spain in 1999. His parents are of Russian/Swedish decent. He was Spanish champion in U12, U15, and U18 and started as a pro in 2016. He is currently ranked at #46 in the world.
If you want to read a feel-good story about Davidovich Fokina, check out this article on the ATP Tour website about him launching Adoptas.org, a platform that helps facilitate the adoption of pets from Spanish shelters. It also provides information to help people better understand the adoption process.
“[I’ve loved animals] since I was little, even though I was not allowed to have pets as a child because my mom thought they gave me allergies,” Davidovich Fokina said last year. “After school, I used to play for hours with a dog that would come up to my door, and I would pet her.
His Game
Alejandro’s game is built on clay courts and relies on exceptional court speed and a powerful, spinny forehand. His drop shot is perhaps the best part of his game. This is again quite typical features for a player who grow up playing clay court tennis.
The question is whether he can transfer his clay court prowess onto hard courts and faster surfaces. He did win the Wimbledon Boys title in 2017, so it’s possible but he still needs to show more results like that on the ATP tour.
If you read his personal bullet points on the ATP Tour, a few of them are noteworthy:
“Favourite shot is backhand, surface is grass, tournament is Wimbledon and city on tour is Brisbane.”
“Inspired by Roger Federer but thinks his game is reminiscent of Novak Djokovic.”
His Racquet
He uses a HEAD Extreme MP pro stock racquet, but it’s difficult to say which one. This is his endorsement page on Tennis Warehouse. And as you can see there, he wears Diadora apparel and shoes, but there is no info on strings.
So if you have any information on Davidovich Fokina’s racquet specs or strings, please let me know in the comments or via our contact us page.
