Finland vs Australia Davis Cup Prediction

We are getting ready for the semi-finals! Here is our Finland vs Australia Davis Cup Prediction. Can Finland perform another upset?

Finland vs Australia Davis Cup Prediction

Finland are huge underdogs against Australia despite both teams sealing their way to the semi-finals in a doubles match. There are several reasons that the bookies give you 5.50 for a Finland win and 1.12 for a Australia win. One is that Finland lack a second singles player if Ruusuvuori is not playing. He has a shoulder injury, but can hit and practice a bit, but not quite enough to play tennis competitions apparently.

Still, Finland’s second singles player is 700-something in the world and will most likely lose to either Thompson or De Minaur.

To add insult to injury, Australia also has a far stronger doubles team in Purcell and Ebden. But if Finland can win a singles match and get to the doubles, they still have a chance on a fast indoor court.

I think Finland’s only chance in this match is putting a 75% Ruusuvuori on the line-up and seeing if he can win despite his injury. At least he has the game to do it, while Patrick Kaukovalta at 782 in the world, is not going to get it done.

There is a lot to be said for all the “sisu” that the Finns bring with their close to at-home-crowd in Malaga (there is a huge Finnish population in nearby Fuengirola), but is it enough to bring out the passion that Team Hewitt has for the Davis Cup, even if they don’t like the new format, they keep showing up with intentions to win it.

TN Prediction: Australia to win in 2
