It’s getting closer. After a topsy-turvy Australian Open where both Djokovic and Murray went out early, we have a quarter-finals setup that is really interesting with three matches that are very hard to pick. The bookmakers at Bet365Â seem to agree.
But hey, you say, there are four matches! Well, judging by Zverev’s comments about the moment his playing one of his idols, Roger Federer, and that he was crushed four years ago 6-0 6-0, I think Federer will just be too strong for him. But if there’s something this Australian Open has taught us it’s that I can be completely wrong.
My pick is still Federer.
Wawrinka vs Tsonga is a tough one however. Wawrinka leads the head-to-head 4-3, but that is hardly overwhelming, and a Tsonga who’s serving well can beat anyone. Although I think history teaches us that Stan the Man Wawrinka is at its best when the stakes are high. And they are here – hence: I’ll pick Stan to win.
This means we can have a highly exciting all-Swiss semi-final on our hands. But two matches to go first.
David Goffin is a dark horse in this tournament. The Belgian is an excellent player with a clear head and there is not one player in the draw he can’t beat. What about Grigor Dimitrov? Is it finally time for “Baby Federer” to fulfil his “destiny” and win a slam? He’s the favorite against Goffin, but my pick is still the Belgian. And I think it will go five sets.
Rafael Nadal is the favorite according to the bookmakers, but Milos Raonic is ranked three in the world for a reason. The Canadian is extremely stable and if his serve is on, I think he can beat Nadal. Yet, the stars seems to have aligned for another Fedal final so I think Rafa will end up with the W.
Do you think we can finally get another Fedal (Nadal vs Federer final)? Let me know in the comments!
