The Olympics 2020 Draw is out and it looks pretty open for Novak Djokovic going for Gold. But what about Naomi Osaka?
I am continuing my challenge (to myself) to do daily vlog and today I had a look at the draw for the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo. There have been plenty of players dropping out, but the field is still relatively strong on both the men’s and the women’s side. Djokovic will mainly be challenged by Medvedev, Rublev, Zverev and Tsitsipas, while the many eyes in the women’s draw will be on Naomi Osaka who is back after her tennis break and Ash Barty, who won Wimbledon.
You can find my thoughts on the first round and my overall winner predictions below. The information I have received about the circumstances is that they play on slow, high-bouncing hard courts at Ariake Tennis Park. There will be no crowds due to Covid restrictions. How will this affect the players and the results after a period of crowds and tennis looking almost like “normal”? We will see.
The Olympics 2020 Draw – No surprises
Why did I add Steffi Graf to the cover? Because she is the only player in history (until now) that has won the Golden Slam. Meaning all four Grand Slams and an Olympic singles gold in the same year. Djokovic has won 3 out of 5 titles and is the major favorite for both the Olympic Gold and the US Open. Can he do it? The Olympic Games comes with a separate set of nerves and pressure and the best of three set format can trip up some favorites compared to the best of five in the slams.
I’m keen to hear your thoughts of how the Tokyo 2020 Olympics tennis will turn out. Who will win? How will the lack of crowds affect the players?
