Wimbledon 2022 Day 5 Predictions
The Championships are well underway. It’s the first day of the third-round matches, so this is the first time in the tournament that seeds can face off against each other.
My Day 4 predictions didn’t work out too well, as I correctly predicted only three matches. This included a win for Kyrgios in 3 sets, a win for Halep in 2 and a victory for Gauff in 2. Let’s try to improve my predictions today!

Centre court
Ons Jabeur (3) vs Diane Parry
Ons Jabeur has shown great form in the tournament, having lost only eight games. She comes up against a formidable opponent, Diane Parry. The young French star has had a great season, making the third round of Roland Garros and defeating Krejcikova in the first round. She seems to be on another run here, so Jabeur will have to look out for her one-handed backhand.
Prediction – Jabeur in 2 sets
Novak Djokovic (1) vs Miomir Kecmanovi?
It will be the battle of the Serbs as Djokovic takes on the dangerous Miomir Kecmanovic. Kecmanovic has had a consistent season reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and the third round of Roland Garros. Kecmanovic has a devastating forehand that can do damage, but after Djokovic’s locked-in performance against Kokkinakis, it is unlikely that the world number 1 will succumb to fellow Serb.
Prediction – Djokovic in 4 sets
Cameron Norrie (9) vs Steven Johnson
Norrie came through a tough match against Jaume Munar, winning in 5 sets. Johnson, on the other hand, had a straight-sets win against the in-form Brit, Ryan Peniston. Norrie’s draw is open, and he is the top seed remaining in his quarter, so he should be the favorite. However, don’t discount Johnson, as he has pedigree on grass and will make this a tough scrap for Norrie.
Prediction – Norrie in 4 sets

Heather Watson vs Kaja Juvan
Heather Watson will look to continue her fine run in the tournament against the youngster, Kaja Juvan. Watson had impressive wins against Korpatsch, coming from a set down, and against the experienced Wang. Juvan also shows a fighting spirit, shocking the in-form Haddad-Maia in the first round. Watson will play for the fifth consecutive day after her matches were postponed due to the weather. Watson will need to dig deep to win this, but with the British crowd behind her, she will be determined to stay another day.
Prediction – Watson in 3 sets
Angeliqe Kerber (15) Elise Mertens (24)
Kerber has been playing impressive tennis in her first two-round matches but will face a tough test against Mertens. Mertens saved six match points against Udvardy to reach her 17 consecutive major third-round. Mertens won her last meeting against Kerber in 2019, but the German always seems to step up her level on grass, so will be tough to beat.
Prediction – Kerber in 2 sets
Carlos Alcaraz (5) vs Oscar Otte (32)
For his limited grass-court experience, Alcaraz has produced two stunning performances to beat Struff and Griekspoor. Big-serving Oscar Otte has had impressive results this grass-court season, reaching back-to-back semi-finals in Stuttgart and Halle, losing to Berrettini and Medvedev, respectively. Otte is yet to drop a set in this tournament and will fancy his chances against the young Spaniard. I think this will be an extremely close match, but Otte’s serve will be hard to break, so I’m going with a win for the German.
Prediction – Otte in 4 sets
Matches to watch
Frances Tiafoe (23) vs Alexander Bublik
In a mouth-watering third-round match, Tiafoe and Bublik will battle it out to make the fourth round of The Championships for the first time. Bublik’s serve will help him come through this match.
Prediction – Bublik in 4 sets
Jannik Sinner (10) vs John Isner (20)
Isner displayed a stellar performance to beat Andy Murray in the first round. Sinner has done well to reach the third round, given that grass is not his best friend. If Isner plays like he did two days ago, he should win this match.
Prediction – Isner in 4 sets
Zhang Shuai (33) vs Caroline Garcia
The in-form Garcia seems to be on a roll, winning Bad Homburg last week and beating Emma Raducanu to reach the third round of Wimbledon. She will continue this winning streak against Zhang.
Prediction – Garcia in 2 sets
Maria Sakkari (5) vs Tatjana Maria
Sakkari looks to have found her feet on the grass and hasn’t dropped a set so far. Maria had a good win against the 26 seed, Cirstea, but Sakkari will reach the fourth round for the first time.
Prediction – Sakkari in 2 sets
