I had the feeling it would go this way, but still I really had hoped for more “tennistainment” in the two semi-finals of the French Open. But both Djokovic and Murray showed why they are the players to beat during this clay court season and after two clinical performances it was all set for the final I predicted all along: Murray vs Djokovic. Murray probably was the most impressive player, being able to throw everything back at Stan the Man Wawrinka with interest and Stan had not much to say about it in the press conference than “What do you …
Breaking down the draw French Open
After a rain-packed second week we’re closing in on the semi-finals at Roland Garros. The remaining quarter-finals happen today around 13 CET if the weather permits. Djokovic is taking on Berdych and Goffin is playing Thiem. Djokovic has an astounding 23-2 head-to-head record against Berdych so I simply can’t see HOW Berdych can beat the world number one. Goffin has 5 wins over Thiem’s 2, but on clay the Austrian is at his best and his game has been progressing in great strides this year. It’s going to be a tight match. My feeling is that Thiem wins it in …
We’re into the second week of Roland Garros of 2016 and it’s been a topsy-turvy tournament so far with Nadal and Tsonga leaving the tournament due to injuries. Thiem has been the most solid youngster (starting to be an established top 20 player) and Ramos, Gulbis and Gasquet has been surprises. My predictions haven’t been as confident in the latter rounds as you can see below. Can Goffin and Thiem show their potential and make it to the quarter-finals? I think so. Gulbis will be a tough opponent if his serve is on, but Goffin has been impressive so far and confirmed …
We’re two rounds into the Roland Garros of 2016 and it’s been a thrilling ride so far with quite a few tight five set matches. My draw breakdown and predictions are going well so far, but we haven’t seen a lot of upsets either. What I’m most impressed with so far is how well the youngsters are holding up: Coric, Kyrgios, Zverev and Thiem. They’re all still there and winning relatively easily. This is the top half of the draw with my predictions: My two main surprises so far is how well Bedene is playing – edging out Carreno-Busta in five sets …
The first round of this year’s Roland Garros is almost over (except for Zverev having a 2-1 sets lead over doubles phenomenon Pierre Hughes-Herbert) and it’s time to look at my predictions and summarize what’s been going on so far. Let’s start with the top half of the draw. I’m pretty pleased with my French Open predictions so far, especially on the top half of the draw. The X’s are predictions where I got it wrong and I have know added the correct name instead for the next round prediction. My pick that Brian Baker would beat Tomic was a …
